Things we may or may not see in the lifetimes of some people alive today:

Superintelligent AI
A cure for ageing and all biological illnesses, or perhaps "posthumanism" where we are no longer dependent on biological bodies to house our minds.
Colonisation of another planet
The end of all life on Earth through a man-made disaster (so this would obviously mark the end of the lifetimes of people alive today).

I can see a time in the next 20 years where you can create a digitised version of yourself, thus making you potentially immortal online.
I should imagine the technology is already there
