Round 1: S R E A T E P D A

Ahmed: PAEDERAST** (18)
Jeremy: SEPARATED (18)
Score: 18–18 (max 18)

Starting it off real nice - somewhat - with a nine from both competitors but of course, they're gonna have to cut Ahmed's declaration due to its definition. I'll let you look that up on your own time.

Round 2: M T R I O A E F L

Ahmed: FLOATIER (8)
Jeremy: TREFOIL (7)
Score: 26–18 (max 26)

And there's the breakaway!

Round 3: 25, 3, 2, 5, 4, 6. Target: 139.

Ahmed: 139. (25 + 2) × 5 + 4 (10)
Jeremy: 139. 25 × 6 − (5 + 4 + 2) (10)
Score: 36–28 (max 36)

Teatime teaser: YEPTEACH -> EYEPATCH

Round 4: S N R A O O U C R

Ahmed: RANCOROUS (18)
Jeremy: rancours
Score: 54–28 (max 54)

Round 5: D J E I N E K C N

Ahmed: NECKED (6)
Jeremy: JINKED (6)
DC: NICKED (6)
OT: DICKEN (6) INDENE (6) KENNED (6)
Score: 60–34 (max 60)

Round 6: 10, 6, 1, 7, 5, 5. Target: 984.

Ahmed: 990. Mistake in working.
Jeremy: -
AMI: 984. (5 × 5 × 7 − 10 − 1) × 6 (10)
Score: 60–34 (max 70)

An unlucky play from both competitors, but Anne-Marie saves the day with the ONLY solution available!

Dictionary Corner Break: Since Christmas was coming around Richard talks about how he feels about Christmas and its yearly antics, especially in the art of caroling.

Round 7: P L A U S A I H W

Ahmed: PILAUS (6)
Jeremy: PLUSH (5)
DC: ALPHAS (6)
OT: HALAWIS (7) PHULWAS (7)
Score: 66–34 (max 77)

Thanks to the food rule, Ahmed extends his lead even further. But two sneaky sevens evade everyone!

HALAWI: A confection made from ground sesame seeds, honey or sugar syrup, and occasionally other ingredients such as spices.

PHULWA comes from PHULWARA: A tree - or the oil from the seeds of it - found in parts of southern and eastern Asia.

Round 8: R S D A E E U N E

Ahmed: SERENADE (8)
Jeremy: SENDER (6)
DC: DENSER (6) ENDEARS (7) UNDERSEA (8)
Score: 74–34 (max 85)

Round 9: 50, 2, 6, 4, 7, 9. Target: 324.

Ahmed: 324. (50 + 4) × 6 (10)
Jeremy: 324. (50 + 4) × 6 (10)
Score: 84–44 (max 95)

Teatime teaser: EARLYBAT -> BETRAYAL

Round 10: B G S I E I A M P

Ahmed: bigamies
Jeremy: MAGPIES (7)
OT: PIGMIES (7)
Score: 84–51 (max 102)

Yeesh, unlucky for Ahmed with a disallowed eight. I can see what his thought process may be though as you can have TRIGAMIES, so maybe BIGAMY could follow the same way. Unlike trigamy, however, Susie says it's a mass noun which gives Jeremy the seven points.

Round 11: D L U O E G T O C

Ahmed: OCTODE (6)
Jeremy: CLOUTED (7)
DC: CUDGEL (6)
OT: OLEODUCT (8)*
Score: 84–58 (max 110)

And seven more points Jeremy gets, and on a rare occasion! And there's an eight hiding in the mix too!

OLEODUCT: A channel or pipe for conveying oil from an oil well or oilfield.

Susie's Origins Of Words: Since Christmas was coming around, Susie talks about the origins of gemstone names like ruby, onyx, topaz, and diamond.

Round 12: W N D I E E O G V

Ahmed: WENDIGO (7)
Jeremy: WEEDING (7)
OT: VINEWED (7) WIDGEON (7)
Score: 91–65 (max 117)

Round 13: L T A I T A U O R

Ahmed: TITULAR (7)
Jeremy: outtrail
DC: TUTORIAL (8)
Score: 98–65 (max 125)

Round 14: 6, 7, 3, 4, 2, 3. Target: 340.

Ahmed: 340. ((6 + 3) × 4 − 2) × (7 + 3) (10)
Jeremy: 339.
Score: 108–65 (max 135)

Round 15: C O L I C P I T A

Ahmed buzzes on 29.5 seconds to say OCCIPITAL which is correct.
Final Score: 118–65 (max 145)

And with an ending like that, Ahmed solidified his reservation in the grand final! Despite some trip-ups, he's maintained a solid game here. But of course, take nothing away from Jeremy as he's put up some great competition as well as even beating Ahmed on a few rounds - a move not many people in his run have been able to do, so he can at least walk away with that reward!

Anyway, soon we're gonna be finished with this series. Meet Christy back here to see the match between:

Stu "!" Harkness

and

Florence "Factor Queen" Cappleman-Lynes!

See you then!
