Stick to 8-letter teatime teasers

Post by Philip A »

I am of the opinion that teatime teasers should be 8 letters at all times; no more random switching from 8s to 9s and vice versa.

Keeping them 8 letters distinguishes them from conundrums more; 8 letters means a bit less strain on the brain for viewers; and it’s good to learn and work out words which wouldn’t come up regularly in letters games otherwise.

I'm fine with both, in fact I really appreciate the 9-letter teasers for the same reason people enjoy 8-letter ones. They're good words that can pop up and 9 letter ones can really help aid you if you spot some shit like ANALGESIC; boom, 18 points up.

I don't think it's "random". They've changed when the host has, although I do agree they should've stayed as 9s for the Les Dennis episodes - pointless to change back to 8s just for a few weeks.

Ignore all commenters with a different opinion, Philip.
This is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of fact.

9-letter teasers are all shades of wrongness. There is no redeeming factor.
Teasers should be of a non-conundrum length.
8 is good, 7 is good, 6 is ok, and even 5 is acceptable.

They really do need to cop themselves on with this.

(Even 10-letter puzzles, as awful as that would be for the casual viewer, would be better than 9.)

Why not have both?
Definitely not Jamie McNeill or Schrodinger's Cat....

I am at a loss as to how anyone can have a strong opinion on this.

+4. Because 3 would be an absurd number and I feel very strongly about that.

Good man Callum, that's the spirit! :D

Also, when it's a weird word that no-one's ever heard of, the presenter should turn to Susie. Nick was good for that, Anne was pretty good, but Colin has been a bit hit and miss. Will give him the benefit of the doubt. He's still in his settling-in period.
