Round 1: M I T U D I S E T

Florence: TIDIEST (7)
Jonathan: DUTIES (6)
DC: DITTIES (7)
OT: TIMIDEST (8)
Score: 7–0 (max 8, jos 7)
Darren-o-meter: 1/1 (100%)

Florence gets herself off to a good start with an early lead, but not the max.

Round 2: T G L V O I A N A

Florence: ovating
Jonathan: VOTING (6)
DC: VALIANT (7) VAGINAL (7)
OT: LAVATION (8)
Score: 7–6 (max 16, jos 14)
Darren-o-meter: 2/2 (100%)

Unfortunately OVULATING is the correct verb here, and thus Jonathan gets off the mask. Two sevens for Rachel P, including VAGINAL (yeah, girl power!).

Round 3: 50, 75, 25, 100, 8, 3. Target: 970.

Florence: 972. (not written down) (100 + 25) × 8 − (75 − 50) − 3 (7)
Jonathan: 972. (100 + 25) × 8 − (75 − 50) − 3 (7)
RR: 970. (100 − 75 ÷ 25) × 50 ÷ (8 − 3) (10)
Score: 14–13 (max 26, jos 24)

Three away here, and it's up to Rachel to show us how to get 97 times 10.

Teatime teaser: DANGIVEN -> DAVENING

Round 4: H N T R E A E D T

Florence: NATTERED (8)
Jonathan: THREATEN (8)
OT: ADHERENT (8) ATTENDER (8) HATTERED (8) NEATHERD (8) REATTEND (8)
Score: 22–21 (max 34, jos 32)
Darren-o-meter: 2/3 (67%)

Eights all around here, but none for Rachel P.

Round 5: L I R I R U L G K

Florence: GRILL (5)
Jonathan: GRILL (5)
OT: KILIG (5) KRILL (5)
Score: 27–26 (max 39, jos 37)
Darren-o-meter: 2/4 (50%)

Oh dear. Horrible round here.

Anne asks Jonathan to "grunt" for her.

Round 6: 25, 50, 2, 8, 9, 3. Target: 329.

Florence: 329. (9 − 3) × 50 + 25 + 8 ÷ 2 (10)
Jonathan: 328. (not written down)
Score: 37–26 (max 49, jos 47)

Florence extends her lead by 10 points, and you have to say she needed them.

Rachel P tells us about her Jane Austen-based comedy. There's not really much more to add, other than her saying "Baff" for the city of Bath. She then talks about 'Murica.

Round 7: P E B E C O N C S

Florence: PONCES (6)
Jonathan: SCONCE (6)
DC: OBSCENE (7)
Score: 43–32 (max 56, jos 54)
Darren-o-meter: 3/5 (60%)

Sixes all around but Rachel P's seven is a little OBSCENE.

Round 8: R N V P A O E F G

Florence: FORGAVE (7)
Jonathan: PROFANE (7)
OT: PARENGO (7) PRENOVA (7)
Score: 50–39 (max 63, jos 61)
Darren-o-meter: 3/6 (50%)

Two sevens here for our two contestants.

Round 9: 100, 75, 50, 7, 3, 6. Target: 459.

Florence: 459. 75 × 6 + 7 + 100 ÷ 50 (10)
Jonathan: 459. 75 × 6 + 7 + 100 ÷ 50 (10)
Score: 60–49 (max 73, jos 71)

thank u, next

Teatime teaser: TENCLUES -> ESCULENT

After the break, Anne and Jonathan have a good conversation about his daughters' weddings, resulting in Jonathan singing.

Round 10: E A A W W N M L C

Florence: LANCE (5) - apprently rejected LAWMAN/LAWMEN
Jonathan: MANACLE (7) (not written down)
DC: LAWMAN (6)
Score: 60–56 (max 80, jos 78)
Darren-o-meter: 4/7 (57%)

A horrible selection and Jonathan does very well to get seven from it, even if it is not written down.

Round 11: T I R U F I R O E

Florence: FRUITIER (8)
Jonathan: FRUITIER (8)
OT: FIORITURE (18)
Score: 68–64 (max 98, jos 86)
Darren-o-meter: 5/8 (63%)

A nice eight from the contestants, and I haven't got a clue what that nine is.

Round 12: S D S N A I E Z M

Florence: MAIDENS (7)
Jonathan: MAIDENS (7)
DC: MAZINESS (8)
OT: SIDESMAN (8)

A row of six dot balls for the two contestants, with eight for Dictionary Corner.

Round 13: P E R U Y O L S H

Florence: PLUSHER (7)
Jonathan: PLUSHER (7)
OT: PLUSHERY (8)
Score: 82–78 (max 114, jos 101)
Darren-o-meter: 6/10 (60%)

Six darrens today, although Florence and Jonathan will kick themselves for not adding a Y on.

Round 14: 75, 5, 8, 2, 8, 4. Target: 898.

Florence: 898. (8 + 4) × 75 − 2 (10)
Jonathan: 898. (8 + 4) × 75 − 2 (10)
Score: 92–88 (max 124, jos 111)

thank u, next

It's going to be a crucial conundrum...

Round 15: T I L L I S E E K

Florence buzzes on 5 seconds to say LIKELIEST which is correct.
Final Score: 102–88 (max 134, jos 121)

Never in doubt. Florence's perfect conundrum record continues and she takes her sixth win. Two more, perhaps?

Join us again for Countdown. Goodbye. ;)

In R2, Florence could have been caught out by fact that OVATING is valid in Scrabble (back-formation from OVATION)
