To me, the usual expression is "with a pinch of salt" rather than "with a grain of salt". Though I recall once coming across "with a huge grain of salt" - surely it would need to be more than a grain! (I've only just discovered the expression actually refers to the old unit of weight called a grain, rather than a single speck of salt - but surely the unit of weight comes in only one size?)

But I suppose that, if something is extremely dubious, you could just as well take it with an even bigger quantity of salt.
