I see that Dr Phil still isn't having his bit broadcast - as I've been reading his Private Eye articles, I guess his views are too 'political' for the bosses at C4

From what I've heard, it was due to the fact apparently that his segments were about coronavirus, and C4 bosses didn't want that, so team Countdown had to cut them.Peter Mabey wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 2:50 pm I see that Dr Phil still isn't having his bit broadcast - as I've been reading his Private Eye articles, I guess his views are too 'political' for the bosses at C4

And alas, Brendan finally met his match today- Paul had a couple of decent letters spots, so maybe he'll be in the chair for a few more. Sad to see Brendan go, liked the fact the he ended up applying due to being stuck here, and he always carried himself with good grace.

I never had Brendan down as a probable octochamp, but once you get so far, it suddenly starts to look likely.

After game 1, I thought it may have been on the cards, but from then on, it didn't seem as likely (thought he did have 1 or 2 good 6 small factorised sums). I think the fact that he was surprised to still be in the champ's chair game after game started to make me see him as an Eddie the Eagle underdog figure of Countdown, so I ended up rooting for him like a typical Brit who roots for the underdogGavin Chipper wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 8:31 pm I never had Brendan down as a probable octochamp, but once you get so far, it suddenly starts to look likely.

Well done to Paul there, although I was slightly wondered if there had been a problem with his declaration of "thrapes", as I was wondering if he meant THREAPS, which is a Northern dialect word, and is pronounced similarly, and since we didn't hear him spell it out, maybe Susie looked in the wrong place....
All irrelevant thankfully.

I think he meant thrapes as that is a local dialect word for driving a car particularly hard.
