Spoilers for Monday 27th May 2019 (Series 80, Prelim 89)
46 points to tie with Dylan's highway ever octotal, 72 to get 1000, there's not really any higher targets because this is so unprecedented. His average has been over 132, so he'll probably get a few here. With a game in hand, he's beaten my octotal and indeed that of all but 8 people (wouldn't it be funny if he loses today but makes the 1000 club?) I'm sure some people without imminent exams will be able to do some more stats stuff to work out all the records he's obliterated.
But just who is this man? What's his story?

Highest Ever Score (152)
Highest Debut Score (131)
Biggest Winning Margin (in which he broke his co-record) (133)
Biggest score without a 9. (126)
And highly likely to surpass 1000 and get the highest octototal ever...
Re: Spoilers for Monday 27th May 2019 (Series 80, Prelim 89)
Today might be a day that would be forever etched in our minds just like 17 January this year...
No doubt about this and I have full confidence he will surpass 1000. Nothing can stop him now

I'm guessing he will get 1047.
Whatever he gets in sure he will get a t shirt with the winning total

Will there be an audible reaction from the audience when* he surpasses 974 and/or 1000, I wonder? (*Barring Elvis and Lord Lucan riding into the studio on Shergar, that is.)
Someone who knows Dylan better than me should edit his wiki to rub in the fact that his record no longer stands to this day.

Other possible records include: 12 maxes to reach 100 maxes (13+ to reach Dylan Taylor's 101), 137+ to reach the current apterous mocktorun high score of 1065.
Re: Spoilers for Monday 27th May 2019 (Series 80, Prelim 89)
Some more niche records:
Most 100+ point wins: 5 so far
Aggregate winning margin: Current record is Dylan's 628, Elliott's on 763. He'd need to lose by 136 points to not have this record.
Lowest aggregate score by opponents: 165 after 7 games, will almost certainly be a record. I think the record is by Paul Erdunast (his opponents combined for 300)
Most opponents restricted to under 30: 4 so far
Highest score by an opponent: 40 must be the lowest for any octochamp
Most points from numbers rounds: Current record is Dylan's 311. Elliott could get 317 if he gets 40/40 today.
Most points from letters rounds: Zarte or Jen might have this one, but Elliott should overtake it.
Fewest points dropped in an octorun: 26 so far. Jen dropped 72. This is perhaps the most ridiculous of the records.
Most rounds won in an octorun: 85 so far. Paul's record was 82.
He's also got the highest ever score after 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 games. Someone got 134 as a challenger in the Old 15 system, that's the only higher "debut" score than Elliott's.
This run has essentially been the perfect storm of conditions: Ridiculously good player + opponents that don't punish errors + healthy smattering of 9s = all of the records.

102 maxes, 9/9 nines, and a high score that puts all previous octochamps to shame.
Congratulations Elliott "Record Holder" Mellor.

Do we know the records for number of maxes and percentage of max score? I seem to remember Dylan and Jen respectively holding these records. But that was before Zarte so he might have beaten one or other of these.Stephen R wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2019 12:39 pm Some more niche records:

There you have it! What an amazing run, not least to say an amazing game that was! As I mentioned in the Daily Chat, Elliott Mellor truly is the James Holzhauer of the UK (Google the latter to find out what he's doing in the US currently...)
Looking forward to a spectacular final in June! He is truly the BEST player of Countdown in the 36.5 year History of the show! (Countdown must have seen a ratings leap thanks to you! )

Wonderful eight games which we thoroughly enjoyed watching. Elliot is a very talented, humble young man, which is an unusual combination of characteristics to see and he deserves all the congratulations he is receiving. Looking forward to seeing him in the finals!

If any bitter Dylan fans start arguing that high scores are easier these days because of all the new dictionary additions, the counter argument is that it's therefore harder to get maxes. Beating the maxes record too is possibly the most impressive record of the lot.

Bitter Dylan fans? You mean "Martin Sinclair"?Fred Mumford wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2019 2:52 pmIf any bitter Dylan fans start arguing that high scores are easier these days because of all the new dictionary additions, the counter argument is that it's therefore harder to get maxes. Fucking hell. I assume he didn't drop many today, so I withdraw my comment about the maxes being the most impressive record.
I'm also now confused as to who obviously didn't make it to the recording of this game - Ashton or someone else who lives in his street?

It was a joy to watch the 8 game display over the last week and a bit.
Peak countdown.

Well, this one will go down in the upcoming official compendium of Countdown history, "1061 and All That". Eternal congratulations, Square!
I'm not dead yet. In a rut right now because of stress from work. I'll be back later in S89. I also plan to bring back the Mastergram - if I can find a way to run a timer or clock through pure MediaWiki without having to upload to Vimeo every time.
