CO-MSO 2018
Like 2017, there will be a Countdown event at the 2018 Mind Sports Olympiad.
For details of all events at MSO see https://msoworld.com/events-woo-ev-products/
This is held in London at the end of August and there is a slot on the second Sunday
for a Countdown event. Top three places will get the gold/silver/bronze medals
and there would be junior medals too if enough juniors play and do well enough.
5 round swiss, followed by a final and 3rd place play-off, using the Bristol System where the same letters/numbers are used across each match-up in a round. Apterous dictionary to be used. This is based on the ODO which is currently used in the show.
So confirmed for Sunday 26th August 2017 from 10:15 to 18:00 at
JW3, 341-351 Finchley Road, London NW3 6ET.
This is a modern Jewish Community Centre - please note food and knives etc may not be brought on site.
Entry fee £15 - book at https://msoworld.com/product/countdown/

In that case, I think I prefer the old-fashioned ones. Also, the underlying situation has never been satisfactorily addressed.Tony Atkins wrote: ↑Fri Jul 06, 2018 11:00 am This is a modern Jewish Community Centre - please note food and knives etc may not be brought on site.

Re: CO-MSO 2018
After having missed this last year, I'm so glad that I've already signed up this year.
After Town beat Cardiff on the Saturday, I'll be heading down ready for the tournament.

Tony,
The event page you linked to is either missing a date or has it somewhere that is not very visible ob a mobile.
I think the summary of the event could be rewritten to be more accessible to people who don't already go to co-events. Would they know what apterous dictionary or "Bristol style" mean? I feel like the same information could be conveyed without using alienating terms.
Do you know if it can be updated so that they're more likely to get more sign ups?
Thanks,
Jack

Congrats to Paul Erdunast who won the final 105-101 vs James Robinson, having won 5 heats with 613 pts
(James won 4 with 534).
Jonathan De Souza won the third place by beating Tim Hebbes 103-93 on a crucial conundrum (3 wins 498 - 3 wins 491).

Re: CO-MSO 2018
Slightly controversial, because Paul Erdunast originally finished in second place, but was promoted to first after the winner was found to have a fork in his possession. Particularly controversial as forks weren't explicitly listed on the banned list.

I actually got a box of Tic Tacs in, and the guys who searched my bag on entry saw them and said nothing!!Tony Atkins wrote: ↑Mon Aug 27, 2018 12:08 pmEven worse two players managed to smuggle sandwiches in...Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Mon Aug 27, 2018 9:54 am Slightly controversial, because Paul Erdunast originally finished in second place, but was promoted to first after the winner was found to have a fork in his possession. Has Prune finished in the top half of a Co-event before?
