Friday 24th June 2016 (The Final)

Post by Anthony Endsor »

Hello and welcome to another Friday recap. :) Well here we are. After an absolutely fantastic series where we have seen many great players come and go, we are finally down to the last 2 players. A good few of the players who lost games to these two probably feel they deserve better than to be packed off home to watch this final on TV, but sadly we can only have one winner and a runner up. These two players have amassed well in excess of 2,000 points between them on their way to the final, and have played the game in a wonderful spirit throughout. Paul Erdunast and Ann Dibben, two very good friends of the Countdown Community lock horns in what is sure to be a great game. Enjoy.

Another perfect 10 for both players with 590.

Round 15: H O L Y C I G A R

Ann buzzes on 2 seconds to say OLIGARCHY which is correct.

Ann brilliantly spotted the conundrum in just 2 seconds.

Final Score: 116–105 (max 135)

So a great final, and Ann was really unlucky to go 18 points down so early on and unfortunately there was just no way back from that as Paul held on. Ann fought hard though, and over the other 14 rounds was the higher scorer, meaning we were a mere UROKINASE away from seeing our first female champion in 18 years. Take nothing away from Paul though, he thoroughly deserved his victory. I know he has been working very hard up to his recording, and now it has all paid off for him. Well done Paul, and commiserations Ann.
So that concludes series 74. A whole new chapter begins on Monday with series 75. Join Sean Fletcher for that to see how we shape up on the first programme of a new series. I'll be back next Friday. I hope you will join me then. In the meantime, thank you very much for reading, and goodbye. :)

Incredibly generous interpretation. I listened to that several times, really trying to hear SLURRED, but it came out BIRD every time.
