COHUD 2015 - Countdown in Huddersfield - Saturday 10th October 2015
100 DAYS TO GO!!!!
Well, you guys have asked for another CO-event up north, and now, Jeff and I can deliver once more
We are heading back to Huddersfield once again, and like last time we'll be using PPG Canalside, the Huddersfield Town F.C. training complex just up the Leeds Road from the stadium, at HD2 1YJ. It is a fully modern, up-to-date facility and ready to cope with the hustle and bustle of a CO-event. (For a look yourselves, go here: http://www.canalsidesports.com)
In the main event, everyone will be put into groups of eight, to play seven 10-round matches (LLNLLNLLNC). Assuming there are 32 entrants, each group will consist of two A-grade players who qualify 1st-8th, two Bs from 9th-16th, two Cs from 17th-25th and two Ds from 26th-32nd, to be drawn and assigned randomly. You then simply work your way through the seven other contenders in your group. (If there aren't quite enough for these sorts of groups, then a similar arrangement to what we had at St. Albans last weekend will take place.)
The heats will use 1/0 scoring, so there's a possible "ten out of ten" to aim for in every match. For winning a match you'll score two points, and it's one point apiece for a draw (so no tie-breakers!). This will give us a winner in each group, and then a statistical overall winner, taking account of overall scores and goal difference.
COHUD 2015 will take place on Saturday 10 October -- doors open at 9am for a prompt 10am start, finishing at 6pm. The admission price is set at £15 and includes a hot buffet lunch. The cash bar will be available too.
As per usual, payments are available:
- By PayPal (jeffrey_clayton@hotmail.com / james_r_robinson@hotmail.com);
- By phone (Jeff: 07595 690 249 / James: 07817 750 544);
- By cheque (address available on request).
We look forward to having you join us up in West Yorkshire

The Worsleys make it 2 and 3, clearly wanting to make sure that Jack will try and beat Innis' record of CO-event wins....

Just a DOZEN days to go now to COHUD, and by coincidence, James Laverty became the dozenth player to sign up earlier today.
I'm still pretty confident on hitting around about the 20 mark, but let's see if we can get a final push up there!!!

Re: COHUD 2015 - Countdown in Huddersfield - Saturday 10th October 2015
Well, I've only just got my breath back after yesterday's action.
We might have only had 17 players, but we had an amazing time, not only with the Countdown event, but with our game of Pointless inbetween.
In the main game, we had a shock in the Group A quarter-finals with last year's runner-up and #3 seed, Callum Todd, losing to #6 seed, Stewart Gordon. In the semis, 2 one-sided games took place with #4 seed, Tom Carey beating #2 seed, Tracey Mills by a 50 point margin, and #1 seed, Jack Worsley incredibly whitewashing Stewart in the other match.
The final itself was a spectacle to behold. Both players maxed the first 6 rounds, before Tom solved HOWITGOLD in just over a second to take the first lead at halfway. Then at the last letters game, Tom chickened MOMENTA, which Jack didn't, clawing the gap back to 3 points with 2 rounds to go, and after the easy numbers, we had Tom leading 100-97 going into the final conundrum CORNFINAL, which Jack solved in just shy of 3 seconds with FRANCOLIN, to win an incredible match 107-100.
In the group B final, John Vivian defeated Phil Jarvis.
For those of you interested, our Pointless game featured 5 pairs, Anthony Endsor and John Vivian, Matty Artell and Tom Carey, Zubair Patel and Chris Marshall bowed out in the earlier rounds (all of them joined the 200 Club in the rounds they lost), which set up a head-to-head which saw Paul Worsley & Elaine Broadley forced into joining the 200 Club as well, leaving Andrew Sullivan and Callum Todd reaching the final.
In the final, they went for pop music, but chose a wrong answer, and 2 other answers which weren't low enough to win the jackpot, although they did get a Pointless trophy each, although Callum did get a Pointless answer in the first round, by saying INTERGROWN in "Words ending with OWN".
