Torn? :?

I read it as TORN too. Clearly it was meant to be TOM.

But I enjoyed it Matt and I did rather better than I have on some (all) of the others.

How does silent fit with the other three? Also I said world cup winners and it said incorrect. I think you should be less specific when it comes to key words needed for the connection. That goes for everyone. And I was never gonna get the game show host anagram one.

Haha I can't believe how royally I fucked that up. I read the Wikipedia page as "torn" rather than "tom" (obviously) and it was downhill from there.
Was in such a research-good-connections mode that I didn't even process what I was reading, was just all about making a great grid. Arse, and sorry.

No, obviously! I started with terriers and then went from "Bull" - obviously thinking male cow and then before I even scrolled down on Wikipedia to individual male animals I saw the male animal categories, soon as I read torn I thought fuck that's obscure, that's perfect, I'll just stick with the main categories.

Someone loaded all of Season 5 to Youtube which was pretty awesome, spent a couple weekends watching them all.

Hope this season also gets uploaded, this is possibly one of my favorite game shows ever even though I'm clueless whenever British pop culture comes up.

Just watched Dave's show. Annoying how Coren kept picking up on the Educators' captain for saying "can I have [hieroglyph]" rather than "may". Spoilers below in small print.

Congratulations, Dave! Very well played - solid team, should do well. Good luck in the rest (assuming it hasn't been filmed already).

Only Connect's on now, featuring Countdown contestants James Wilson and Dorian Lidell.

So we're going to have seven Countdowners in the space of four episodes. :-D

Well another series of this brilliant show will conclude next week.

Has made me think that we should get a c4c/Apterous team on there. 8-)

I'm sure plenty of you guys would be up for it. They're already after more teams for the next series.

Anyone interested in joining myself for OC 2013 :?:

Cool stuff. I got 10/10 but I'm a bit confused why. I knew three groups so could solve the grid, and solve their clues, but then I typed assassinations (a quick guess, not wasting time) for the 4th group and got given "correct" even though the answer was something to do with British monarchs. Hmm.

I only got one group but didn't know how to explain the connection in the box so I just clicked on check and I was going to give myself the point if I was right but it said correct so I didn't type anything in for the others and got them all correct. I think he just didn't bother with keywords for the connections.

Yeah, that key word section is probably what did it, I can't remember exactly what keyword I was looking for in that particular connection, but I probably ended up taking their advice of "making the stem very general" a little too literally. It's sort of a weird system, I sort of wish I could have just put in the connection and let their system determine the key words. Specific question to Matt below:

Did you put in assassinations of British leaders or the like for the monarchs one? Now that I think about it I probably ended up making "British" an extra key word.

The system on that site for guessing connections seems to be totally messed up, or at least very unclear. I've had exactly the same issue (completely wrong answers accepted as correct, and word-for-word correct answers marked wrong) with loads of grids, including ones I've made myself. Anyway nice grid Jordan, quite hard to get started with but resolves very nicely.

10/10 with 1:34 left but got lucky guessing the 4th member of one of the name groups (had to bash) and then I think an overgenerous keyword gave me the other name group. 7/10 really.

It normally jars when people on OC mispronounce "horned viper", saying "horned" as if it had two syllables. But something about the way Mr Pendleton said "Whore Ned" made me forgive him.

Just catching up on last week's show. Did anyone else notice an incorrect answer in the missing vowels round? Under Italian football teams they accepted a pronunciation along the lines of the INTERNACIONAL for INTERNAZIONALE, a 'French' sounding pronunciation which crucially omits the final syllable- in Italian it's INTERNATSIONALLAY. It's kinda nitpicking but that Only Connect and the missing vowels round for you
