Ellen Baker won on a crucial conundrum yesterday. Can she win again, on a crucial or normally, to end this week on win number 2?

Round 1 : IMPLODES

Another debatable DC equaller : SIMPLES

Nothing to do with price comparison ads or meerkats,
but in the OED, with note "chiefly historical" 

A medicinal herb, or a medicine made from one: ‘the gatherers of simples’

Very unlucky for Sharif, as the third half turned the tables a bit.

When has there been a selection of numbers targets like today's :!: :!: :?: :?:

ORGEATS in round 4, SUNRISE in round 5, BEVATRON in round 12.

Yeah, I think he was 21 ahead and seemingly playing quite well. Declaring UNPAID as 7 might have flustered him a bit, especially as when Susie questioned him on it - "Did you say six?" - he just confidently said "No, seven - UNPAID", so he might have been quite embarrassed when he saw that it was wrong. I was surprised by it as well. Sometimes I think a word seems as though it should be longer (or shorter) than it is, but UNPAID is exactly not that sort of word. It's just UN-PAID, and I would never need to check the number of letters.
