It's just a way they make statistics now. It started with cat food and now cats are relied on to make product choices all across the supermarket.
For example, 8 out of 10 cats prefer real butter to margarine, or 8 out of 10 cats prefer biscuits to deodorants.

No Matt. Why did they make Countdown a regular part of 8 Out of 10 Cats, and what do they mean by real cats?

That is what they mean by real cats, unless I've misunderstood. Can you explain it Jason?
Do you think they made Countdown a regular part of 8 Out of 10 Cats or that they made 8 Out of 10 Cats a regular part of Countdown?
If you had it give it one name, would it be Catsdown or 8 Out of 10 Counts?

I think one of the new segments involves Countdown and cats. They made Countdown a regular part of their show.

How the heck?

The last episode featured Jimmy Carr messing around with a couple of baskets of kittens as his caper during the letters round. I will assume this is what they meant.

On a point of information here, the strapline for the old Whiskas advertising campaign was never "8 out of 10 cats". It was originally "8 out of 10 owners said their cats preferred it" (cats not being generally capable of filling in surveys). Then someone complained to the Advertising Standards Authority, and the slogan was changed to the oh-so-snappy "In tests, 8 out of 10 owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred it".

A kitten inside a dog? Are we advocating cross breeding now?
