Jason Atheron is cooking with pomelos right now on Saturday Kitchen.
And Paula Radcliffe said the words Pronator and Supinator in an interview with Steve Wright yesterday afternoon.
Edit: The pomelos are massive! Much bigger than your average grapefruit.

In Columbo: The High IQ Murder Case the characters were playing a game where they pick out a word from the dictionary and ask each other if they know what it means. The word discussed was 'carina' which I thought was quite cool. As I write this, Columbo has just spotted something interesting. Fucking love Columbo.

Saw a picture of a PANGOLIN in the metro today and I commented that PANGOLINS was PLAINSONG and I had no idea what both words mean - I thought a pangolin was a musical instrument!

No, can't allow that Muu Muu because it's clearly two words and it's capitalised and nothing like what a muumuu actually is. Sorry Joseph. Nice try!

Well Muu Muu is not the same word as muumuu. I should have put the bit about it being nothing like a muumuu in brackets.

Re: Countdown words spotted in real life
Not quite relevant to this thread but don't know where to put it. The word is 'shithouse' and I either read this recently on this forum or (and this is rather scary) I dreamt it. Briefly the story is that a contestant gave this as a nine and Susie OK'd it as being in the dictiionary but the powers that be edited it out and refilmed that bit.
Is this true and if so what happened to the score line as someone did not get the nine.
I am now embarrassed but I want to know. My wife thinks I am making it up.

I think you mean SHITFACE. Jack Hurst got it back in Series 63 but the people edited it out and changed the C to an R so he then got HARDIEST and the scoreline remained unchanged.John Bosley wrote:Not quite relevant to this thread but don't know where to put it. Reading my book on the way to work this morning and this line pleased me:
"what is it? An Indian spirit? Something like a manitou or a wendigo?"
Prior to this I had no idea these words were related and had always thought a manitou was a bird.

Re: Countdown words spotted in real life
I work as a software tester for an American insurance company and one of my current projects involves testing a customer facing voice recognition application which serves Spanish speakers. When customers call up asking for a new quote, the application asks them what type of quote they are looking for and they say things like 'auto' or 'homeowners insurance' There is one product (PUP - Personal Umbrella Policy) that was causing us a fair bit of confusion as we were unsure how this would translate into Spanish, so we got in touch with the people in charge of the design. They replied to us saying that we should say 'cobertura personal de piragua.' However, my colleague Olga pointed out that the Spanish word should be 'paragua' for umbrella as the word 'piragua' means snow cone to Puerto Ricans.

Last week I went to my friends' house (Before the pedants say anything, apostrophe is correct - two live there). I was pleasantly surprised to be served POUTINE. Then only last Thursday, went to Jamie's Kitchen in Brum, and with the steak was served POLENTA. First time I'd had either, and am happy to cross off two countdown words from the imaginary iSpy book

Couple of quotes from a history text I was reading today...
'It was a grandiose old ship'
'2 gaolers and a clergyman were accused of his murder'
Noone else had ever come across the word gaoler before and I wanted to scream something like "HOW CAN YOU NEVER HAVE HEARD OF THAT WORD!!?? IT'S A REGULAR COUNTDOWN WORD!!!" before deciding it might get me labelled as being a bit crazy (which I sort of am but who cares...)

Not strictly speaking a spot of a Countdown word, but you know you're pretty invested in Apterous when you see a story like this in The Onion and your first thought is trying to determine if the catchy, neologistic product name has a 9-letter word available from it.
EDIT: And then I read the article and spotted the legit word PICANTE.
