Countdown Hall of Fame?

Post by Dave Preece »

If we had a Countdown Hall of Fame, who would you want in and why? What criteria would you want for a contestant to gain entry into the Hall of Fame?

Would you only want the greatest Champions?
or
Only players with a certain percentage wins?
or
Only players with the best percentage of max?
or
What?

I think it needs to be an EXCLUSIVE club, you wouldn't want any Tom, Dick or Harry nominated, say 10 or 15 max?

What do you guys think?

Before we mention any names (even the obvious ones), can we throw around ideas for a structure?

I don't think there should be a Countdown Hall of Fame, for what it's worth. I think if your name is engraved on the Richard Whiteley Memorial Trophy, then you've achieved Countdown immortality and there doesn't need to be anything besides.

C1: SIGNATURE (18) ["9; not written down"]
C2: SEATING (7)
Score: 108–16 (max 113)

Another niner for Adam and yet another century. Well done, that man."

Freeman and Fell aren't on Sir Richard's Trophy?

A Countdown Hall of Fame would DEFO have been approved by Richard, he loved this sort of stuff!

We could call it the Dame Carol Vorderman Memorial Hall of Fame or something?

Unless they engraved all winners' names on Sir RW's trophy? If so I didn't know that!

No, I don't think they did, but I was thinking of series champions in general.

With 60+ winners, there's hardly going to be room for all them on the trophy: I suppose there could be a plinth bearing tablets with all the names, but I think it might resemble a War Memorial :?

Thousands of contestants
Thousands of champs
Hundreds of octochamps & finalists
Dozens of series champions
Around a dozen champion of champions
Two 30th Birthday/Supreme champions
But who are the BEST/GREATEST 10 or 15 out of all those???

Whoever they are they deserve top be put into the Countdown HALL of FAME!

???

We'd be just going over old ground. Again. This thread adds nothing new.

I don't really see what the obsession is with trying to determine who the 'best ever' players are anyway. It's going to be more or less entirely arbitrary regardless of what ranking system you implement.

We'll never get a single hall of fame that we agree on. I think you could quite reasonably ask people to make their own individual lists and post them here. Basically what I said here. ANd then if you want, you could collate them and see which x have the most appearances.

Me neither. But what I meant was that there are already threads that discuss the exact same thing. Maybe find them, read them, and then add to them?
