Spoilers for Thursday November 29th 2012 (Series 67 #82)
Yet another big day this series, and we've said that a lot in these few months. David Barnard has a chance to become the 7th octochamp of this series, which I believe would be only the third time we've had at least 7 octochamps in a series. His place in the finals is also up for grabs. Even if he loses, he can surpass Grant Waters with 41 points or more in a loss. If he wins, he would need only 20 points to go to number 4, 27 points to go to number 3, and and 56 points to go to number 2. Surpassing Paul James as the number 1 seed would be a little harder, he'd need to score 113 points to do that, though it's certainly possible.
Join James for the potential coronation later.

Round 3: Great spot by David: REMUDAS -- (... and cue Jeff Stelling type comment) "I definitely never 'heard' of those horses"
Actually had a David beater in MAUNDERS, so missed the nine.

Well done David on becoming both an octochamp and the current number 2 seed. This is shaping up to be quite some finals I think.

Great run, David! Unlucky to miss out on the number one spot but you'll certainly be one to watch out for during the finals. That's back-to-back octochamps now for the third time this series!
OUTDANCE (R1), UNCRATED (R9), MANNOSE (R11) and POTAGE (R12).

I missed the final letters selection as had to take a phone call. I saw that David got a 9 from it, could someone provide me with the selection please?
Also, well done to David for becoming an octochamp.

Congrats David! Quite a few tough challengers in your run, you did well to hold steady until the end. Also I felt bad for you in the first numbers round - no doubt you'll have to explain what you were doing to quite a lot of people!

What happened? (Or is it something that can only really be explained by watching?)Innis Carson wrote:Congrats David! He started explaining a solution involving a 4-large trick, but realised half way through (while he was at a 4-figure intermediate sum) that he'd gone wrong, and had to awkwardly stop there.Michael Wallace wrote:What happened? The selection in r13 was MRSRAIODE for the 9.
Unclucky with the numbers - I did the second one David's way but made the 6 by 9+2-5 to have the 1 left over -
and sorry the first sum left him at 940.5 and not 941, but well played and a well deserved octochamp.

Ah, heh, I suspected it might be something along those lines. Bad luck David.Innis Carson wrote:He started explaining a solution involving a 4-large trick, but realised half way through (while he was at a 4-figure intermediate sum) that he'd gone wrong, and had to awkwardly stop there.Michael Wallace wrote:What happened? Nice work, David. Shame about those 2 numbers games, and sundried, I thought that was a good shout too, although I thought it might be more likely to do with sundries, as opposed to sun-dried.

Well played David, congratulations on the eight wins.
I liked how Virginia seemed surprised every time it was her turn to pick.

Thanks, I've seen it now. AIRDROMES is a seriously awesome spot from that selection.Tony Atkins wrote:The selection in r13 was MRSRAIODE for the 9.
Re: Spoilers for Thursday November 29th 2012 (Series 67 #82)
So SUNBAKED is okay but not SUNDRIED? Does this language make any sense at all? Apparently, it does :
sunbake verb [no obj.] Austral./NZ sunbathe.
sun-baked adjective (especially of the ground) dry and hard from exposure to the sun's heat.
Well done on octochampdom, David

Thanks for the comments. On my first numbers game I was trying a 937.5 trick and I meant to go (75*50)+6)*25)/100)+2. I am happy to join the club of octochamps though and did far better than I expected to

I remember in one of Paul Gallen's games (I think his first) he got SUNDRIES, but pronounced it SUN-DRIES, so basically lucked into it.Heather Styles wrote:So SUNBAKED is okay but not SUNDRIED? Does this language make any sense at all? Apparently, it does :
