Aptoforumite Chris Marshall is gunning for octochampdom, and just one obstacle stands in his way: Fergus Regan.

Round 1: D S P E A O L E T

C1: PLEASED (7)
C2: TADPOLE (7)
DC: ADOPTEES (8) DESOLATE (8) TADPOLES (8)
OT: PEDALOES (8) PEDESTAL (8)
Score: 7–7 (max 8)

Unlucky start for Fergus, who could have put the S on the end of his word for 8 relative extra points.

Round 2: F E L I N O X A T

C1: FOLIATE (7)
C2: OXTAIL (6)
DC: EXFOLIANT (18)
Score: 14–7 (max 26)

This time it's Chris' turn to miss a word similar to his - a 9 infact - but he still takes the lead.

Round 3: J P T E I O D E G

C1: PODGE (5)
C2: PODGE (5)
DC: TOPED (5)
OT: EPIDOTE (7)

Five apiece.

Round 4: M S S A U A V C I

C1: AMISS (5)
C2: MASS (4)
OT: AMICUS (6) CAMASS (6) CASSIA (6) SUMACS (6) VISCUS (6)

Chris has now extended his lead but both contestants have yet to get a max.

Round 5: 75, 25, 100, 5, 6, 2. Target: 565.

C1: 565. 6*100-25-5*2 (10)
C2: 567.

A 4 large gets Chris more points.

Teatime teaser: MALTBEER -> ATREMBLE

Round 6: A D E B O R E F T

C1: BEATER (6)
C2: BOATER (6)
DC: ABORTED (7)
OT: BERATED (7) DEBATER (7) DRAFTEE (7) FORBADE (7) REBATED (7)
Score: 40–18 (max 56)

More points for both.

C2: LINEAR (6)
DC: CARLINE (7)
OT: ACARINE (7) CARINAE (7) CARINAL (7) RAILCAR (7)

This is the first letters max, and it takes Chris further ahead.

C1: TREE (4)
C2: ALTERED (7)
DC: RELATED (7)
OT: ALTERED (7) TEAZLED (7) TREADLE (7)

But he almost completely loses it here, meaning Fergus catches up a little.

Round 9: S R N A O U H O E

C1: HONOURS (7)
C2: AROUSE (6)
DC: SENHORA (7) UNHORSE (7)
OT: HOARSEN (7) ONEROUS (7) ONSHORE (7)

Lucky Chris can make up for that slip-up, and octochampdom is coming ever closer...

Round 10: 50, 2, 10, 3, 5, 7. Target: 933.

C1: 936.
C2: 935. (10+7+2)*50-3*5 (7)
RR: 933. (50+5)*(10+7)-2 (10)

Fergus makes up some ground on this numbers.

Teatime teaser: BEGINGIN -> BINGEING

Round 11: S V D E O I T U S

C1: DIVOTS (6)
C2: DEVIOUS (7)

C1: TOPIARY (7)
C2: TRAIN (5)
DC: PUNITORY (8)
Score: 68–39 (max 110)

CHRIS HAS BECOME AN OCTOCHAMP!

And it doesn't!

Round 14: 25, 8, 4, 7, 6, 10. Target: 172.

C1: 172. 7*25-6/(10-8) (10)
C2: 172. 7*25-6/(8/4) (10)
Score: 78–49 (max 120)

Both get that numbers game spot on.

Round 15: M O O N Y S T A R

C2 buzzes on 17 seconds to say MONASTORY which is incorrect.
C1 does not buzz.
The answer was ASTRONOMY.
Final Score: 78–49 (max 130)

Chris becoming an octochamp gives some hope for West Yorkshire.

Join Mark Deeks tomorrow for a special between legends Graeme Cole and Edward McCullagh.

Score: 78-49
Raw: 88-82
RAUNSWC: 95-89
Maxes: 5-2

And now... the new feature! This one assumes the numbers the opponent had which weren't mentioned were true:
