It's Valentine's Day and Nick and Rachel kick off discussing all things lovey-dovey.

Enjoy the show.

Round 1: S P W S I A E S C

C1: capsises
C2: SWIPES (6)
DC: WASPIES (7)
OT: ASCESIS (7) ASEPSIS (7)
Score: 0–6 (max 7)

Victoria's dodgy variant of CAPSIZES isn't allowed so Chris takes an early lead.

A WASPIE is a woman's corset or belt designed to accentuate a slender waist.

Round 2: T E D A V O M U Z

C1: movated
C2: DEVOUT (6)
DC: DEVOUT (6)
OT: MOATED (6)
Score: 0–12 (max 13)

Victoria's still making up words, and Gloria makes her usual confusing comment of there being a 'funny combination of letters' :?

Round 3: T R W T E I O N Q

C1: WINTER (6)
C2: WRITTEN (7)
DC: TRITONE (7)
OT: WRENTIT (7)
Score: 0–19 (max 20)

Chris continues to shut out the champ.
Susie shows us that a TRITONE is an interval of three whole tones between C and F sharp.
The vaguely amusing WRENTIT is a long-tailed North American songbird.

Round 4: N A B U P E G A O

C1: AGAPE (5)
C2: PAGE (4)
DC: APNOEA (6)
Score: 5–19 (max 26)

Victoria's off the mark, and DC find the lone 6.

Round 5: 25, 6, 10, 1, 8, 3. Target: 867.

C1: 864. (25-1)*(3*10+6) (7)
C2: -
RR: 867. (3*10+6-1)*25-8 (10)
Score: 12–19 (max 36)

Gloria tells us about her exploits on Who Wants to be a Millionaire with Freddie Forsyth, and that she kept it a secret from her grandchildren. Yawn.

Teatime teaser: FOLDSOFA -> OFFLOADS

Round 6: I R E S I M E N L

C1: SMILER (6)
C2: SMILIER (7)
DC: SLIMIER (7) RELINES (7) MERLINS (7)
OT: ERMINES (7) INLIERS (7) LIERNES (7) LIMNERS (7) MIELIES (7) MILREIS (7) RESILIN (7)
Score: 12–26 (max 43)

Flat 7's here, but Victoria's not on the ball.

Round 7: T N T R U O A H E

C1: THREAT (6)
C2: THRONE (6)
DC: UNEARTH (7) HAUNTER (7)
OT: EARTHNUT (8)
Score: 18–32 (max 51)

An EARTHNUT is a Eurasian plant of the parsley family, or another term for a peanut.

Round 8: I T O S A N S D E

C1: sedations
C2: SEDATION (8)
DC: ANODISES (8)
OT: SEDATIONS (18)
Score: 18–40 (max 59)

:o CONTROVERSIAL! The debate rumbles on here - http://www.c4countdown.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8872

Round 9: R T M D A O I R P

C1: PARROT (6)
C2: IMPORT (6)
DC: AIRPORT (7) PAROTID (7)
OT: AIRDROP (7) MIRADOR (7)
Score: 24–46 (max 66)

OoW - Susie speaks about words from the trenches, including the origin of Sweet Fanny Adams.

Round 10: 50, 75, 6, 10, 5, 4. Target: 627.

C1: 625. (4+5)*75-50 (7)
C2: 625. (4+5)*75-50 (7)
RR: 627. (50+75)*5+6-4 (10)
Score: 31–53 (max 76)

Teatime teaser: ARIDPEAS -> PARADISE

Round 11: T S N D E O U D K

C1: SUDDEN (6)
C2: SODDEN (6)
DC: STONKED (7) KNOUTED (7)
OT: SNOUTED (7) SOUNDED (7)
Score: 37–59 (max 83)

To KNOUT is to whip somebody to the point of death in Imperial Russia. Nice.

Round 12: M E X I T O G J E

C1: EXIT (4)
C2: EXIT (4)
DC: MOXIE (5)
OT: EEJIT (5) EMOTE (5)
Score: 41–63 (max 88)

God knows how they managed to find the EXIT here. Victoria really needs a win in the last letters round.
An EEJIT is an Irish or Scottish term for an idiot.

Round 13: P V G C I E O A R

C1: GRAPE (5)
C2: PACIER (6)
DC: CAGIER (6) PAVIOR (6)
OT: COPIER (6) PEROGI (6) PICARO (6) VIRAGO (6) VIRGAE (6) VOICER (6)
Score: 41–69 (max 94)

And she doesn't. That's curtains for her now as she can only reach 61.

Round 14: 50, 25, 4, 5, 1, 10. Target: 799.

C1: -
C2: 799. Mistake in working.
RR: 799 - (50+25+5)*10-1 (10)
Score: 41–69 (max 104)

Round 15: S O D A L O T T O

C1 buzzes on 12.75 seconds to say TOADSTOOL which is correct.
Final Score: 51–69 (max 114)

So it's a disappointing end for Victoria after six wins and Chris is the new champ.
We'll find out in due couse whether the sedations debacle has cost her a place in the last eight.

And that's my first recap complete! Thanks for reading! :D
