Yet another silly 'predict the time' game
As many of you may know, due to the phenomenal amount of spambots who try to register at c4c, Charlie or myself have to approve every new member who registers here. This has resulted in the odd situation that whilst it says on the front page that there are 1226 members, the newest member has the id 46434. I've just had #48500 drop in my inbox, and immediately drop out of it again (no Countdown discussion for you, Isaac3926).
So, your game is to predict when #50000 drops into the inbox. Winner gets something trivial and probably imaginary at COLIN.

I was originally going to say Friday 13th January at 1:53pm then I realised how ridiculous that would be! Chortle.

Final score was 14th January 2011 at 5:47 AM, making this YAKBV, so well done to Kirk.

Only Thomas Carey stated which year it would happen so I think he wins.

Re: Yet another silly 'predict the time' game
Quite pissed off. Pretty sure I was going to win that.
I did a load of maths and worked out rates and stuff, I was going to say (honestly) 14th January at the same time I went for, 2am, but decided to add 2 days on to my maths to account for humans being a bit busier at xmas and not setting up a couple of the spambots. Would have been remarkably close if I'd stuck to my guns, which makes spambots a) remarkably independent (or the humans involved remarkably boring), and b) remarkably consistent.

That's weird, because I worked out rates and stuff and came up with a completely different answer from you. I too was quite pissed off.Matt Morrison wrote:Quite pissed off. Pretty sure I was going to win that.

I'd like to know your thinking by the way, Matt. I'll tell you mine:Gavin Chipper wrote:That's weird, because I worked out rates and stuff and came up with a completely different answer from you. I too was quite pissed off.Matt Morrison wrote:Quite pissed off. Pretty sure I was going to win that.

I looked at the last three members and the spambot Ben mentioned primarily. Spambot rates can presumably vary a lot over time, so I wanted recent data.
Charlie Hastings to Matthew Clymer had a gap of about 22 2/3 days and a membership number gap of 2163. That's about 95 a day.
Matthew Clymer to Paul Keane was about 22.5 days and a gap of 2505. That's about 111 per day.
Paul Keane to Isaac3926 was about 18 2/3 days and a gap of 2066. That's about 111 a day.
Overall I think spmabot regisrations have increased, so I decided to go with 111 since it was consistent across the last two, and I didn't see it going down. We needed 1500 more so that was about 13.5 days and I added that on to Ben's posting time. I, not Matt, deserved to win this!

Re: Yet another silly 'predict the time' game
I'd just like to point out that I put zero effort into predicting this time. I hope this makes you both really happy, Gevin and Matt.
