Welcome back Dan, and welcome to the new abode.

I seem to remember that after I joined the group, your games were the first I saw that were played by a group member, so I watched them with an even greater interest.

I also well remember your encounter with Anne Robinson. What was it she called you? Gloria, I believe.

So, welcome to the forum, Gloria. :D

Hi - My names Alan.
I've been a fan of Countdown since Day 1 - incidentally anyone know what happened to Cathy who used to do the letters?. I enjoy being able to beat the contestants - and especially trying to beat Carol at the numbers game - which i'm proud to say has happened quite a few times (if you can call about 3 times in over 25 years quite a few )

Yes. I don't really put much effort in these days. I kind of stopped trying seriously when it became apparent that I was too crap to be invited back for the Champion of Champions. Then in 2006 I proved conclusively I was too crap for Champion of Champions.

I never like these things, but here goes:

I'm Andrew, once known as Noel in a previous life, now either known as Andrew, APL, or if you're staunch traditionalists, Noel. Getting ready to commence upon reading Classics at Manchester University come September.

Used to watch Countdown regularly when the great RW was at the helm, watched it occasionally when Des Lynam took over, and very rarely watch it now that Des O'Connor's in the chair.

One of the rare people who enjoys/enjoyed the conversation between host and Carol more than the game, hence why the changes of host affected me more than they may have affected others.

I think that will do nicely for now. 8-)

No, I'm not quite dead. Nearly, but not quite! I've just had a lot of, oh what do you call it?, *shite* to put up with just recently, but I'm back and better (or should that be worse?!) than ever!

I do hope my return from the dead doesn't spell Countdown's demise... :?

With the current uncertainty, and the short notice break, maybe any airdate can only be considered as provisional. Good to learn that there are some future programmes that have been recorded.

Hi there, my name's Jay, and I'm 16. I have been an avid viewer of Countdown for almost all of my life, taking a shine to the clock and the music when I was 18 months old (I learnt the alphabet from Countdown and it really gave me a kick start into education), and I'm hoping to become a contestant at some point after asking my parents aged just 7 - and being fobbed off with an age limit of 12! Looking back it's lucky I saved myself the embarrassment of an audition as I hadn't really played along very well, I just wanted to go on the show. I was once cast as host for an episode of Countdown as part of a school assembly - there you are, give me the job! Discard all those comments about me having a face for radio, and also my nickname of Des Lynam.

I still remember my first ever 5 I got, DOORS. :D And with that, I'll close this post..

I was also wondering how to change my username as I never quite put my full name :?

Hello everyone, and welcome to the forum!

First, Debbie, good luck on Countdown! I look forward to hearing how well you do!

Also, Steven, I recall reading that you were a contestant in Series 55. I don't think you won a game! What was it like to meet Des Lynam in person?

Again, welcome to everyone!

The first time I met him, he seemed more like he was just there to do a job, but he was still courteous nonetheless. Then there was a month break and after 3 days of my show being recorded, he announced he was quitting  . But when I went back the two times after, he seemed a lot more lively and far more sociable.

I was also lucky enough to go to his leaving do (along with the other finalists of the series) and I got the chance to properly speak to him and away from the cameras, he's a very pleasant and down-to-earth bloke.

Also, thanks to all for the welcoming messages :)

I'm not quite sure what it was really; just extreme tiredness, but I didn't feel totally myself. Strange though because my dad and a couple of the fellow contestants also said I didn't seem right.

Hi, Steven!

You're welcome for my welcome!

I must say, I have seen Des Lynam on Sports Mastermind, and he definitely seems more comfortable on that show! It's his cup of tea. I have never disliked him, but when he was on Countdown, for example, reading an e-mail at the beginning of the show he sounded like a deer in the headlights!

He's still a really good guy, though!

Hi folks, I'm Gerald and have just joined the forum.

Just wish to make my presence known.

Have been watching Countdown for almost 20 years.

Yesterday I signed up to C4's own forums expecting to find a forum for Countdown but couldn't find anything. When I posted a message asking if there was one nobody could be bothered to reply, although several people viewed the posting.

Hope you folks are more sociable!!

Hi, Gerald!

Welcome to the forum!

Also, James, if you sound like a deer in the headlights that means you don't know anything given the situation.

For example, if Des Lynam woke up very early and appeared to be half-asleep while he was on Countdown he would wonder, "Where am I?" "What is going on?"

That's what a deer in the headlights sounds like!

Hello!

Ann Myers? Who are you?

Well, as you can see in my profile, I am originally from Seattle, Washington and I have seen Countdown on Youtube and a torrent site that I visit.

I have liked all the hosts of Countdown very much, but I am very well aware that there will be a huge change on Countdown next year.

Anyway, welcome to the forum, ann!

Okay so I've taken forever to notice the new group and I'm currently 20 shows behind, but I still live in Somerton and still hope to get invited to the next CoC. To add to the list of eternal questions, Why does your friend, who really isn't very good at Countdown, always spot the word you didn't? And point it out every time they meet you?
