I've just noticed this. As I'm too shit (and too shit scared) to apply for Countdown, I would love to have played in this. I guess I'm miles too late?

Great! Count me in. I would enjoy a sound spanking from one of the top players, preferably female. Definitely not my son Scott; that would be just too pervy. :!:

I think I was mostly responsible for it being STILLBORN, but any tournament that breaks down as soon as one person doesn't turn up is likely to go that way in the end I suspect, q.v. the various apterous leagues which have come and gone.

I'll give it a go, if it isn't too late. However, my skills would probably be better used organising.

Round 1: O I C N D I D E R

IV: coddier
RB: COINED (6)
DC: CRINOID (7) ONEIRIC (7)
Score: 0–6 (max 7)

A dodgy start from Ian ensures Rhys takes a surprising lead, but not for long...

Round 2: M S U T P I L T O

IV: MOULTS (6)
RB: STUMP (5)
DC: SPOTLIT (7)
Score: 6–6 (max 14)

Rhys' selection does not produce a second S and he is devastated. :(

Round 3: A T R E M E B U C

IV: EMBRACE (7)
RB: TREE (4)
DC: BEAUTER (7) CREMATE (7)
Score: 13–6 (max 21)

A max from Ian surely means Rhys can't turn it around now...

Round 4: D O E Q M E N I A

IV: DEMEAN (6)
RB: meaned
DC: DOMAINE (7) DOMINEE (7)
Score: 19–6 (max 28)

Rhys gambles on MEANED^, whereas Ian plays about with the suffix, turns it into a prefix, and BOOM! Six points in the bag.
Next...

Round 5: 25, 75, 8, 7, 1, 3. Target: 286.

IV: 286. (75 + 25) x 3 - 8 - 7 + 1 (10)
RB: 283.
Score: 29–6 (max 38)

Another max from Ian ensures that in the first half, it's all gone Ian's way...

Round 6: H E W N R U R I L

IV: WHIRLER (7)
RB: LINER (5)
Score: 36–6 (max 45)

Rhys can only see RURAL but we don't have the letters. Ian's not phased...

Round 7: O S B I N A R O T

IV: ABORTIONS (18)
RB: TRAINS (6)
Score: 54–6 (max 63)

A Superb niner from Ian puts the game undoubtedly beyond Rhys' reach?
Rhys really wanted the B to be a D for TANDOORIS, and if where's Touchdown when you need it...?

Round 8: R E A K E P E A N

IV: KEEPER (6)
RB: KEEPER (6)
DC: KEENER (6) PANEER (6)
Score: 60–12 (max 69)

An eeeasy round.

Round 9: O Y H E D A L C I

IV: HOLIDAY (7)
RB: LACED (5)
DC: HEADILY (7) HYALOID (7)
Score: 67–12 (max 76)

Again, an easy round... for Ian.

Round 10: 75, 50, 100, 25, 2, 9. Target: 235.

IV: 234. 100 + 75 + 50 + 9 (7)
RB: 234. 100 + 75 + 50 + 9 (7)
RR: 235. (100 - 2) x (75 / 25) - (50 + 9) (10)
Score: 74–19 (max 86)

Finally Rhys gets to pick the numbers. He goes with his trademark 4 large and can only find 234, the same as Ian.

Round 11: E S G A N A R I S

IV: assagai
RB: searings
DC: ASSIGNER (8) REASSIGN (8) SANGRIAS (8) SARANGIS (8)
Score: 74–19 (max 94)

Rhys is convinced this is a word, particularly as it has been offered before!

Round 12: T A D O S U O G A

IV: OUTGAS (6)
RB: DUOS (4)
Score: 80–19 (max 100)

Ian farts his way out of trouble and this guarantees a win for Ian.

Round 13: A J V I N E Z W S

IV: WAIVES (6)
RB: nvines
DC: AZINES (6) NAVIES (6) ZANIES (6)
Score: 86–19 (max 106)

Rhys makes a typo. 6 points for Ian...

Round 14: 50, 100, 25, 75, 8, 9. Target: 312.

IV: 312. (50 x 8) - 100 + 9 + (75 / 25) (10)
RB: 312. (50 x 8) - 75 - 9 - (100 / 25) (10)
Score: 96–29 (max 116)

Rhys' trademark 4 large works... for both of them.

Round 15: E H T W I T T E N

RB buzzes on 7 seconds to say "No sorry, It's gone," which is incorrect.
IV buzzes on 24 seconds to say "TWENTIETH!" which is correct.
Final Score: 106–29 (max 126)

I'll see when Charlie's next available, bloody nuisance that my router was being a sod last night, and by the time I'd fixed it, it was too late.
