Countdown recap for Monday 16 January 1995.

Welcome to the JK recap, my minions. (Any suggestions for the nickname of my recap?)

C1: Champion Mary Horswill (3 wins, 164 points.)

DC: Richard Samson and Philip Franks.
CV: Carol Vorderman.
OT: Other words or solutions.

R01: F C R O A F R E M
R02: N P R E I S E R Z

R04: 50, 4, 7, 5, 1, 10. Target: 337.
R05: N M C E I S A T V

R07: G M C A I E H T A

Round 1: F C R O A F R E M

C1: FORMER (6)
C2: FORCER (6)
DC: FARMER (6) COFFER (6) FOREARM (7)
OT: AFFORCE (7)
Score: 6–6 (max 7)

DC find the more common of the two sevens, but it takes them till after Round 2. The contestants, however, get a six each.

Round 2: N P R E I S E R Z

C1: REPINES (7)
C2: PRIZES (6)
DC: REPRISE (7)
OT: PERRIES (7) RESPIRE (7)
Score: 13–6 (max 14)

Four sevens available and Mary opens up a small lead..

Round 3: D N S O U W D I S

C1: WOUNDS (6)
C2: DISOWNS (7)
Score: 13–13 (max 21)

Only for it to disappear to nothingness as Charles (or Charlie as Richard calls him) goes darrenic.

Round 4: 50, 4, 7, 5, 1, 10. Target: 337.

C1: 337. (50*7)-10-4+1 (10)
C2: 336.
Score: 23–13 (max 31)

A rather simple numbers sees Mary take the lead again.

Round 5: N M C E I S A T V

C1: INVEST (6)
C2: MINCES (6)
DC: SEMANTIC (8) VESICANT (8)
Score: 29–19 (max 39)

Two eights available, both of which DC find, but our contestants fail to get past 6.

VESICANT describes anything which creates blisters.

Round 6: T S G I A R P E B

C1: PASTIER (7)
C2: PARTIES (7)
DC: GRAPIEST (8)
OT: AGISTER (7) GAITERS (7) STAGIER (7) BAPTISE (7) BARITES (7) PARGETS (7) PIASTRE (7) PIRATES (7) PRATIES (7) TRAIPSE (7)
Score: 36–26 (max 47)

A flat round – or is it? DC’s 8 is unknown by Lexplorer, so possibly it was remove from the dictionary by the time Jimdic came into being.

Round 7: G M C A I E H T A

C1: MIGHT (5)
C2: machet
DC: HAEMATIC (8)
Score: 41–26 (max 55)

Charles seems to think that MACHETE is spelt with no E at the end, which lets Mary have the points this time round. Then DC wow the pants off everyone as the show us their 8, which presumably means something to do with blood. Ask Dave Spikey.

Round 8: 75, 7, 9, 6, 9, 3. Target: 884.

C1: 884. ((9+3)*75)-7-9 (10)
C2: -
Score: 51–26 (max 65)

Charles’ numbers let him down again, as now he cannot win the game.

Round 9: G O D P I N N E R

C1 buzzes on 24 seconds to say PONDERING which is correct.
Score: 61–26 (max 75)

But he wouldn’t have anyway as Mary gets the conundrum, though she does take rather long.
