Gevin Chapwell 150 - 164 Craig Chittenden

Craig won but I was pleased to be in the lead after 13 rounds against arguably the tournament favourite (along with Matthew Tassier).

Kirk, Stephen, Edward and Gareth, you have 6 hours, 31 minutes and counting. If you don't start the group before midnight, you will all be kicked out of the tournament. If this happens and Matt decides against playing as well, I will cut Matt's group down to 3 and Group C will look like this.

GROUP C, if it doesn't start by midnight
Dinos Sfyris
Bob de Caux
Adam Gillard
Thomas Cappleman

If some but not all of Group C start tonight, then only the first 1/2 names listed will play.

Lost on a tie-break hyper conundrum to Kai! Since it's a league should that count as a draw? ;)

It will go down as a win for Kai but the result will be 160-160 (Before anyone asks, yes, I am making this up as I go along).

Fair enough, I'm happy to call it a draw though. Maybe a 170-160 draw?

I think Oliver's solution is fine. You won, but the 10 points from the conundrum don't count towards goal difference.

Hi Oliver

I don't want to put a spanner in the works, but if the above guys don't play I'd be happy to make group A back up to 4 players.

I was 20th in the duel so I think I'm next on the list.

I was thinking of doing that, but there was a tie for 20th so I didn't want to discriminate between you and the other guy. Now you've expressly asked, I think it's only fair now to offer you the place. (There's still just over 1 hour left though)

Group D:

Michael Wallace 182 - 127 Oliver Garner

I'm going to pretend the max calculation is correct and say I got 182/185 8-)

Michael Wallace 147 - 170 Innis Carson

In what was basically the decider for who'd win the group (although I needed to avoid a thrashing to make sure I got second place on goal difference), nothing very exciting happened. Innis was just a bit too solid for me.

All of Group C are out of the competition so it now consists of
Dinos Sfyris
Bob de Caux
Thomas Cappleman
Jamie French

Adam Gillard replaces Matt Morrison in Group A.

Innis Carson won Group D and Michael Wallace came second in it.

It would have taken me 10-15 seconds to unscramble it anyway, if at all, the latter being the more likely

Matt T won group A, with Chris playing Adam to decide second. If Chris wins, he's through but if Adam wins by 83 or more (I think), Adam's through. If Adam wins by 82 or less, Ben W is through.
Group B was won by Craig Chittenden with Kai finishing second.

Still four matches to play in Group C; can these be played ASAP!

Dinos 180 - 170 Bob DC in a really intense game. Resolved on a tiebreak conundrum so dunno if it counts as a win or a draw or whatever. We both beat the max on multiple occasions. Bob trailed by exactly 10 points for most of the game then really pulled it out of the bag smashing an insane 8 small target late in the game to equalise. We were both chuffed to solve quite a tricky 1 large in round 19 and both thought that it would give us the edge! A simple-ish final 2 large meant all our skill had to be decided by a rather standard hypernundrum on which Bob was just behind me. Cheers for the game mate, really enjoyable :)

Score wasn't a fair reflection the game, as it was very tight until we starting deviating from 1 and 2 large. Particularly pleased with Round 14, where I managed to beat Carol by a mere 8624!

Oliver, what should we do in the knockout stage in the case of draws? It seems a shame to decide a numbers tournament on a hypernundrum (particularly since I am probably the worst at unscrambling them of all the quarter finalists :) ), so maybe it could go to a replay? Or are you happy with the hypernundrum excitement?

Good question. I would suggest you ignore the hypernundrum and play an x numbered round game where you continue until someone wins a round AND scores on the next round (winning or drawing) so the advantage in picking first/second isn't too great. When there is a result, either continue playing for fun or skip every round.

Quarter-final:

Innis Carson 187-157 Bob De Caux

Bob unfortunately suffered from an early misclick, and it looked like the 10-point difference was going to remain for the whole game, but I seemed to hit rare form and managed to pull ahead towards the end. Bob's a phenomenal numbers player and there's no question that I was fortunate to win here, certainly wouldn't back myself to beat him again.

Cheers Bob, was a great match.

Finally, the finale

Matthew Tassier 177 - 170 Dinos Sfyris
Dinos Sfyris 180 - 190 Matthew Tassier

Two good close games. Bit annoyed that I got confused and messed up a dead easy round in the second to miss out on a max game.
Thanks Dinos for the games and the impetus to get the tournament concluded.
