(It is a Health and Safety Requirement that you) Enjoy the show.

Round 1: G P T S U E E O D

C1: GUESTED (7)
C2: POSTED (6)
DC: TOUPEES (7)
OT: OUTSPEED (8)
Score: 7–0 (max 8)

Clive’s dodgy suggestion turns out to be just fine, but everyone in the studio misses the darrenical 8 (of which the meaning is rather self explanatory. Fine, for the idiot among us, it means to travel faster than).

Round 2: N H D A E L I R R

C1: HANDLER (7)
C2: HARRIED (7)
DC: HARDLINER (18)
Score: 14–7 (max 26)

A darrenic 9 is found by DC, but our contestants again settle for sevens.

A hardliner is not a thick pen, but someone who adheres to an agenda rigidly.

Round 3: D R X A O E H V R

C1: DROVE (5)
C2: DROVER (6)
DC: HOARDER (7)
Score: 14–13 (max 33)

Clive forgets to add the R to his 5 and has his lead slashed to a solitary point.

Round 4: 75, 9, 7, 2, 4, 10. Target: 614.

C1: 616.
C2: 613. ((10-2)*75)+9+4 (7)
CV: 614. ((75-7)*9)+2 (10)
Score: 14–20 (max 43)

And now he loses it altogether, as he is beaten on the numbers, and Carol is left to arithmetise her way to 614.

Round 5: L R T I U E S J O

C1: JOUSTER (7)
C2: LOUSIER (7)
OT: OUTLIERS (8)
Score: 21–27 (max 51)

Clive’s dodgy seven is fine, but the whole studio misses the darren.
Round 6: R S N N I A E D B

C1: DINNERS (7)
C2: BINDERS (7)
DC: BRANDIES (8)
Score: 28–34 (max 59)

Sevens for our contestants, but DC find the darrenical 8.

Round 7: V P K I E I Q G T

C1: KITE (4)
C2: PIKE (4)
DC: KEPT (4)
OT: GITE (4) GIVE (4) KEPI (4) KEPT (4) TIKE (4) PIKI (4) TIKI (4) TIPI (4)
Score: 32–38 (max 63)

Four is the max in this horrid collection, and everyone find one of the eleven.

Round 8: 75, 4, 1, 5, 5, 4. Target: 139.

C1: 139. (4*4*(5-1))+75 (10)
C2: -
Score: 42–38 (max 73)

And Clive’s solve means they have their fingers on the buzzers for the crucial conundrum. Could we have a new champion?

Round 9: A M B E R B O D D

C2 buzzes on 15.25 seconds to say BOMBARDED which is correct.
Score: 42–48 (max 83)

And we do, as Jackie’s solve means that she is here for tomorrow’s game. Consolations for Clive though, as his solves of both conundrums yesterday don’t carry through to today, and we have a new champ.
