Enjoy the show. Looks like it could be a good one. Rachel predicts that a 19yearold, male brunette will win. :)

Round 1: S Y T F N O E A R

C1: SANTERO (7)
C2: FROSTY (6)
DC: SENATOR (7) TREASON (7) SEAFRONT (8)
OT: FORESTAY (8)
Score: 7–0 (max 8)

Strange wors give Jack the lead. It has something to do with religion.

Round 2: O N E S O R E N A

C1: ENSNARE (7)
C2: NOONERS (7)
Score: 14–7 (max 15)

1 max each, out of two available.

Round 3: T C P H V I O I O

C1: PITCH (5)
C2: PITHOI (6)
OT: OPHITIC (7)
Score: 14–13 (max 22)

You can really tell these deserve to be in the final. Although it wasn't the max, PITHOI is an amazing spot and means 'a large storage jar of a characteristic shape'. So now you know.

Round 4: E P I S E M I N Z

C1: PIEMEN (6)
C2: PIEMEN (6)
OT: MIZENS (6) SEIZIN (6)
Score: 20–19 (max 28)

Simple. Just like Simon.

Round 5: 10, 8, 1, 7, 1, 6. Target: 673.

C1: 672. (10+1+1)*7*8 (7)
C2: 680.
RR: 673. (10)
Score: 27–19 (max 38)

6 small seems to be on Jack's side again as he ups his lead to 8 with this spot.

Dr Phil talks about writing lists everwhere you go, or else you could end up with very strange food.

At this point Rachel gets the numbers.

Teatime teaser: KENTRIED -> TINKERED

Round 6: E T O K U G A R E

C1: OUTRAGE (7)
C2: OUTAGE (6)
Score: 34–19 (max 45)

Unlucky! Jonathan fails to put the R in his word. This doesn't look hopeful for Jonathan...

Round 7: T S D W C O E A S

C1: COASTED (7)
C2: COASTED (7)
Score: 41–26 (max 52)

Darren. Nice and easy.

Round 8: E T U D I L O R I

C1: OUTLIER (7)
C2: OUTLIER (7)
DC: DILUTER (7)
OT: DIORITE (7) OUTRIDE (7)
Score: 48–33 (max 59)

Same words, again. Despite Jonathan having an average of 7.5 points per game more than Jack, things aren't looking good for him.

Round 9: B R T G J A E I O

C1: BORGATE (7)
C2: BORGATE (7)
Score: 55–40 (max 66)

As any regualr viewer should know, a BORGATA (plural BORGATE) is an organised branch of the mafia. Classic finals stuff. Susie meanwhile talks about pub names once again.

Round 10: 75, 1, 8, 10, 2, 6. Target: 654.

C1: 654. (75+6+2)*8-10 (10)
C2: 654. (75+6+1)*8-2 (10)
Score: 65–50 (max 76)

This numbers was a lot easier than the last one. Jack has still kept on to that 15 point lead going into the third half.

Teatime teaser: NORTHSUE -> SOUTHERN

Round 11: S M N R G E U I O

C1: RESUMING (8)
C2: MOUSIER (7)
OT: SOIGNEUR (8)
Score: 73–50 (max 84)

:o Jonathan has definitely had better days, missing RESUMING there! 23 points behind with 4 rounds to go, it looks like this could be game over for the guy from Sheffield...

Round 12: U D I L E S U W C

C1: WIELDS (6)
C2: SLUICED (7)
Score: 73–57 (max 91)

...OR IS IT? He got that darren to close down the gap.

Round 13: T P M H G I A I E

C1: MIGHT (5)
C2: MAGPIE (6)
OT: EMPATH (6) MITHAI (6)
Score: 73–63 (max 97)

 And now he's only ten behind! Could he make a shock victory?

Round 14: 100, 3, 4, 2, 8, 8. Target: 471.

C1: 472. (100-4)*(3+2)-8 (7)
C2: 472. (100-4)*(3+2)-8 (7)
RR: 471. (50+8)*8+4+3 (10)
Score: 80–70 (max 107)

A tactical numbers pick is always best in these situatiions, but as he's against Jack, 1 large was probably a good choice, and they both get 1 away.

SEMI-CRUCIAL CONUNDRUM TIME!

Final Score: 80–70 (max 117)

JACK HAS WON THE 66TH SERIES OF COUNTDOWN!

Amazing game from both players. Yes, a few bad misses but that was probably down to nerves. Great game, deserving of a final.

They show a few highlights from this series and then present Jack with his gubbins. (They don't give Jonathan £1000, for some reason.)

Almost - it's actually the plural. The singular is BORGATA.

This numbers was a lot easier than the last one, and I'm moderately surprised neither contestant did (8+1)*75-(2*10)-6,
Maybe neither of us did that because it gives 649. :D

Brilliant final, both of you aptokiddies, kept us gripped to the last.
I told Jack when he first won in November that I was predicting a Worsley win (to which he replied 'No pressure, then'), but congratulations to you, Jack, for keeping your nerve and coming through as series champion. Jonathan remained impressive in his demeanour as well as through his consistent skill and a smile that only narrowly exceeded Jack's in beamishness.
Great stuff, excellent.
