Round 1: C D T I E A M S P

C1: DAMPEST (7)
C2: CAMPSITE (8)
DC: IMPACTED (8)
OT: CAMPIEST (8)
Score: 0–8 (max 8)

An impressive start by Suzi. I wonder if she's planning to pitch her tent in the studios for a few shows :?:

Round 2: S L U H E B N I R

C1: BLUSHER (7)
C2: BLUSHER (7)
DC: BLUEISH (7) BURNISH (7) BUSHIER (7)
OT: SUBERIN (7)
Score: 7–15 (max 15)

Plenty of 7's here. :)

SUBERIN is a waxlike, fatty substance, occurring in cork cell walls and in or between other cells, that on alkaline hydrolysis yields chiefly suberic acid.

Round 3: Q S L S O A I N T

C1: SLANT (5)
C2: SAINT (5)
DC: TONSILS (7)
OT: INSTALS (7)
Score: 12–20 (max 22)

Just 5's from the contestants, which both could have pluralised with the extra S they had available to them............ :?

Round 4: G R E D X O V E K

C1: groved
C2: EVOKED (6)
DC: GROVE (5) REVOKED (7)
Score: 12–26 (max 29)

Suzi improves her lead further, thanks to Glenn's groved not being in. Although, she could've stuck the R on the front of it for the darrenic 7........

Round 5: 100, 6, 4, 10, 7, 7. Target: 248.

C1: 249. ((6 - 4) x 100) + (7 x 7) (7)
C2: 249. ((6 - 4) x 100) + (7 x 7) (7)
RR: 248. ((100 x 10) - 7 - 7 + 6) / 4 (10)
Score: 19–33 (max 39)

COR BLIMEY!! Rachel likes to give us the works with those numbers, doesn't she :?:

Lesley treats us to another musical performance with a rendition of the immortal classic, Puccini's O mio babbino caro, in tribute to Florence, where Rachel's favourite bridge, the Ponte Vecchio is. :D

Teatime teaser: NURSEMAY -> ANEURYSM

Round 6: L A J R E P N A I

C1: PRALINE (7)
C2: AIRPLANE (8)
OT: PERIANAL (8)
Score: 19–41 (max 47)

A bit embarrassing that the cabin crew member, Glenn, didn't spot the AIRPLANE there.

Round 7: T Z R E A I D M A

C1: TIRADE (6)
C2: MATIER (6)
DC: RADIATE (7) DRAMATIZE (18)
Score: 25–47 (max 65)

A very impressive 9 spot by DC there, leaving the contestants 3 behind on their 6's.

Round 8: H E R N O C M O R

C1: CROONER (7)
C2: HERON (5)
DC: MOOCHER (7) MOORHEN (7)
OT: CORONER (7) HORMONE (7) HORNERO (7)
Score: 32–47 (max 72)

Half a dozen 7's, but Suzi can only fly off with her HERON.

Round 9: G N V A I A O W R

C1: AVOWING (7)
C2: ROWING (6)
DC: OVARIAN (7)
Score: 39–47 (max 79)

Well,......... Glenn second 7 in a row has decimated Suzi's lead down to 8 points, heading into the 2nd numbers game.

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of "hen night", appropriate for Rachel, as she'll be having hers soon. 8-)

Round 10: 25, 10, 3, 9, 6, 4. Target: 346.

C1: 346. ((25 + 9) x 10) + 6 (10)
C2: 344.
Score: 49–47 (max 89)

And now, Glenn takes the lead with that perfect solve. :o

Teatime teaser: ALLSABIT -> BALLISTA

Round 11: S T M U E O T N G

C1: MOUNTS (6)
C2: TONGUES (7)
DC: NUTMEGS (7) TENUTOS (7)
OT: MUTTONS (7)
Score: 49–54 (max 96)

:P :P :P That describes Suzi retaking the lead perfectly. 8-)

Round 12: W I T D E P S A E

C1: DESPITE (7)
C2: pewits
DC: PEEWITS (7)
OT: DEWIEST (7) IDEATES (7) SWEATED (7) WAISTED (7)
Score: 56–54 (max 103)

Oh dear, Suzi had PEEWITS, but she spelt it with one E, which is not only wrong, but doubly annoying considering that the other E she needed was available to her.

Round 13: N D T I A E S F C

C1: FANCIED (7)
C2: fascinated
DC: FANCIEST (8) DISTANCE (8)
Score: 63–54 (max 111)

Oh dear, even my dad predicted that Suzi would say FASCINATED when she declared 9, but as we can see from the correct spelling, FASCINATED is a 10. But, luckily, the gap is less than 10, so she still has a chance.

Round 14: 50, 75, 8, 9, 1, 9. Target: 473.

C1: 468.
C2: 473. (8 x 50) + 75 - ((9 / 9) + 1) (10)
Score: 63–64 (max 121)

Well, that's a turn up for the books :!: :!:  :o I didn't even spot that method to get to 473, but that gives her the lead, but Glenn has been pretty snappy with his previous 2 conundrums, so Suzi will have to be quick off the block, to guarantee her place.

Round 15: G O V I N P O R K

C2 buzzes on 3 seconds to say PROVOKING which is correct.
Final Score: 63–74 (max 131)

Well, she seems to have taken my advice, and after seemingly imploding in the mid-section (scoring just 7 points between rounds 8-13), Suzi made the recovery at the right time to give her the win.

If she's good enough, she could even be an octochamp by the time I return from Italy on Jubilee Day. 8-)

Right, instead of heading down to Wembley on Saturday to support "The Mighty Terriers", I'm heading off to Italy for a nice break for a week and a half. I'll be back on UK soil on June 4, although I won't be back online till the next day.

So, I'll leave you in the more than capable hands of Jack Worsley for next Wednesday and Thursday, giving him 3 recaps next week. (I hope he can stand the heat. :P  )

So, I'll be back in the reacppers' chair on June 6. 8-)

So, till then everybody, take care of yourselves. ;) :) :D BYE BYE.

Oh, and UP THE TERRIERS!!!!!!!!!
