A very flat round.

C1: ACIDS (5)
C2: ACIDS (5)
DC: CAUCUS (6) CICADAS (7)
Score: 12–12 (max 14)

A poor selection actually yields a very nice 7 which is a large insect.

Round 3: N R M G T I O A E

C1: MORGANITE (18)
C2: MANGIER (7)
Score: 30–12 (max 32)

Brilliant! Peter spots the tough 9 to increase his lead, is it over now already?

Round 4: R I M O V E T A N

C1: VOMITER (7)
C2: INVERT (6)
DC: VARMINT (7) OVERMAN (7)
OT: NORMATIVE (18)
Score: 37–12 (max 50)

Unfortunately, this round (with 8 of the same letters) also has a 9 but nobody spots it :!: Still, Peter extends his lead with a rotten 7.

Round 5: 50, 8, 8, 1, 9, 4. Target: 102.

C1: 102. (50+1)*(8/4) (10)
C2: 102. (50+1)*(8/4) (10)
Score: 47–22 (max 60)

John talks about a trip to the racing, in which a horse he had on at 33/1 won.

Teatime teaser: GOSPRINT -> SPORTING

Round 6: S O N E V I R T N

C1: INVENTORS (18)
C2: INVENTORS (18)
DC: INVESTOR (8)
Score: 65–40 (max 78)

And another 9! With Stephen also spotting it, Peter's score is looking brilliant now, as is the max!

Round 7: B L H Y U E I X O

C1: bailey x
C2: BLUEY (5)
OT: BOULE (5) HELIX (5) HEXYL (5) HOLEY (5) OBELI (5)
Score: 65–45 (max 83)

Eek, he's found a phantom a, he lets Stephen back in it momentarily.

C2: LOBES (5)
DC: POSABLE (7)
OT: ASLOPE (6) JALEOS (6) POLJES (6)

Round 9: R G W N I O E D I

C1: IGNORED (7)
C2: WORDING (7)
DC: WIDGEON (7)
OT: DOWERING (8) WEIRDING (8)
Score: 77–57 (max 98)

Both spot a 7, but two 8s were available here.

OoW: Susie talks about the origin of the phrase 'pleased as punch.' This was a viewer's question, it originated from Punchanello, of Punch and Judy fame.

Round 10: 75, 50, 25, 4, 4, 9. Target: 142.

C1: 142. (75+25+50)-4-4 (10)
C2: 142. (75+25+50)-4-4 (10)
Score: 87–67 (max 108)

Another easy numbers makes both scores look very good.

Teatime teaser: MANUPSET -> SPUMANTE

Round 11: G T H M E A O E P

C1: POTAGE (6)
C2: HOMAGE (6)
DC: APOTHEM (7)
Score: 93–73 (max 115)

Both spot 6s whilst DC spot a very nice mathematical 7, which Rachel doesn't know about, much to Nick's dismay.

Round 12: D A Z O R E W S L

C1: RELOADS (7)
C2: WORLDS (6)
DC: ADORES (6) ORDEALS (7) WALDOES (7)
OT: LOADERS (7)
Score: 100–73 (max 122)

Peter reaches the century yet again, and a large score is in prospect.

Round 13: S D N P S U E I T

C1: DISPUTES (8)
C2: SUSPEND (7)
DC: STIPENDS (8)
Score: 108–73 (max 130)

And he spots another great 8. STIPENDS follows John's horse-racing theme.

Round 14: 75, 100, 25, 5, 3, 9. Target: 196.

C1: 196. (75+100+25)-(9-5) (10)
C2: 196. (75+100+25)-(9-5) (10)
Score: 118–83 (max 140)

And a third low target for the numbers is spotted by both contestants. Terrific scoring today.

Round 15: C O I N T U B E S

C2 buzzes on 5 seconds to say BOUNCIEST which is correct.
Final Score: 118–93 (max 150)

Ouch, unfortunately Peter can't get the conundrum quicker than Stephen and thus doesn't get the top score. However, 118 is another fantastic score, especially against Stephen, who's 93 is nothing to be ashamed of at all. Peter's come up against some very tough opponents and definitely deserves 8 wins. He also has 600 points from 6 wins so a big tally looks inevitable. Congrats!

I didn't quite catch this round, so not sure if these are the words, but they did both spot a 7.
Peter had IGNORED, but Stephen's is right.

Good recap as always, thanks for taking the time to do these the past few weeks.

Well played again Peter, his golf handicap may be 14 but his countdown handicap would probably be +4. Great player and a proposition of a Peter v Jack final looks pretty tasty, I hope this happens

I'm not surprised that Rachel didn't know APOTHEM, as the usual word for that is the IN-RADIUS^ :geek:
