Countdown recap for Monday 13 February 2012.

Hello and welcome to Monday's recap.

Enjoy the show.

Round 1: F V T R E O I N D

C1: FRONTED (7)
C2: FRONTED (7)
DC: DIVERT (6) FORENT (6)
Score: 7–7 (max 7)

So Victoria does what I couldn't do in 11 shows, spelling out my name! This therefore makes her my favourite contestant of series 66 - apologies Jack

Round 2: T E R O M P A D Z

C1: TRAMPED (7)
C2: TROMPED (7)
DC: ADOPTER (7)
OT: READOPT (7) TZARDOM (7)
Score: 14–14 (max 14)

A dodgy sounding word from Ed turns out to be an American version of TRAMPED.

Round 3: V R T G I E U R T

C1: GUTTER (6)
C2: GUTTER (6)
DC: GUTTIER (7)
OT: GRITTER (7) RUTTIER (7)
Score: 20–20 (max 21)

Scores are still level but if either contestant had been braver they might have added the I.

Round 4: S A N O P I C R E

C1: CANOPIES (8)
C2: COPIERS (7)
DC: CAPONISE (8)
OT: CAPONIERS (18) PROSCENIA (18)
Score: 28–20 (max 39)

CAPONISE makes a, maybe, unwelcome return. However DC misses the fairly common 9. (On Apterous of course.)
The PROSCENIA is the part of the theatre stage in front of the curtain.

Round 5: 100, 6, 1, 7, 8, 4. Target: 123.

C1: 123. (6*4-1)+100 (10)
C2: 123. (6*4-1)+100 (10)
Score: 38–30 (max 49)

An easy numbers makes the scores look promising.

Gloria talks about how she met Cliff whilst on a party in Paris and they got stuck in an elevator and had to call 10 firemen.

Teatime teaser: PUTACOIN -> ACUPOINT

Round 6: T U M O N E W R I

C1: MOUNTER (7)
C2: MOUNTER (7)
DC: REMOUNT (7)
OT: ROUTINE (7) RUNTIME (7)
Score: 45–37 (max 56)

Another dodgyish round is given the all clear by Susie.

Round 7: S D G B O E I S T

C1: DESIST (6)
C2: boggiest
DC: STOGIES (7)
OT: BEDSITS (7) BIGOTED (7) BODGIES (7) DIGESTS (7) EGOISTS (7)
Score: 51–37 (max 63)

And Victoria now has daylight as Ed sees two Gs.

Round 8: S A N E D U S X W

C1: SEDANS (6)
C2: WANED (5)
DC: SUNDAES (7) unwaxed
OT: SUNDEWS (7)
Score: 57–37 (max 70)

And Victoria increases her lead.

Round 9: P T H P I O E T A

C1: -
C2: TITHE (5)
DC: EPITAPH (7)
Score: 57–42 (max 77)

Ouch, Victoria blanks and lets Ed close the gap a little. The crew talk about what would be on their epitaphs - Gloria said "I tried" and Nick "He died dead lucky." See below for Susie's response.

Back to Susie for OoW as she discusses someone WW1 terms from the trenches.

Round 10: 75, 100, 3, 8, 9, 7. Target: 414.

C1: 417. (7-3)*100+(9+8) (7)
C2: 418.
RR: 414. (75-((3*7)+8))*9 (10)
Score: 64–42 (max 87)

Victoria regains her lead as Ed slowly loses his chances of victory.

Teatime teaser: IROSYRED -> DERISORY

Round 11: J D M S O E I M A

C1: JAMMED (6)
C2: MAIDS (5)
OT: AMIDES (6) EJIDOS (6) MAIMED (6) MASJID (6) MIMEOS (6) MIMOSA (6) MODEMS (6) SAMMIE (6)
Score: 70–42 (max 93)

And that effectively seals the tie bar a late revival for Ed. Plenty of sixes here, none too common.
An EJIDO is a piece of land farmed in Mexico.
An AMIDE is an organic compound related to Ammonia.
A MIMOSA is an Australian acacia tree. :D

Round 12: K O B E C A T D U

C1: OUTBACK (7)
C2: outbacked
OT: BOUTADE (7)
Score: 77–42 (max 100)

And it goes from bad to worse as he gets muddled up, knowing that outbacked (9) was invalid but OUTBACK (7) was valid he got muddled in his declaration!

Round 13: N L R Q E A I S N

C1: NAILERS (7)
C2: NAILERS (7)
OT: ENSNARL (7) LANNERS (7) LARNIES (7)
Score: 84–49 (max 107)

Ed gets another 7 on the board in a pretty flat round.

Round 14: 50, 1, 9, 2, 1, 7. Target: 129.

C1: 127.
C2: 129. (50+1+1+9)*2+7 (10)
Score: 84–59 (max 117)

But he makes the score a little more respectable as he gets, what I think, is a nice solve.

Round 15: I G R E W V I N E

C1 buzzes on 3 seconds to say REVIEWING which is correct.
Final Score: 94–59 (max 127)

Victoria gets the conundrum quite quickly and finishes with a very good 94. Ed started well but seemed to fall apart mid game.

Ed tells of his enjoyment of art and how he likes Banksy. Susie closes the show by saying her epitaph would say "No more words to say." She also adds that Banksy would probably write on it: "Be grateful she had."

Thanks for reading. :)
