Round 1: N G S A I O W F E

C1: SEWING (6)
C2: WIGEONS (7)
DC: AGONISE (7)
OT: AGONIES (7)
Score: 0–7 (max 7)

Susie thinks Neil's word is dodgy, but upon consulting the dictionary she finds this alternative spelling of WIDGEONS is in fact valid and the challenger takes an early lead.

Round 2: R B N L A U E U P

C1: -
C2: PLANER (6)
DC: PLEURA (6)
OT: NEBULAR (7)
Score: 0–13 (max 14)

Eek! Neil extends his lead after Susan completely blanks... cue Nick to give her a scolding "Susan..."

Round 3: R J H I A E L R U

C1: HAULIER (7)
C2: HAULIER (7)
Score: 7–20 (max 21)

A darren is spotted by all to get Susan off the mark.

Round 4: T R S X A E O E R

C1: ROASTER (7)
C2: ROASTER (7)
DC: ROSEATE (7)
OT: EXTRORSE (8)
Score: 14–27 (max 29)

A nice 7 from DC which means rose-coloured, however Susan is now in double figures. Everyone misses the 8 however.

Round 5: 25, 10, 10, 6, 5, 3. Target: 612.

C1: 609. Mistake in working.
C2: -
RR: 612. ((10*10)+(5-3))*6 (10)
Score: 14–27 (max 39)

Ouch, a null round for both contestants as Rachel tells us to just forget about the 25.

Dr.Phil talks about his instant medical degree and asks Susie to be a temporary doctor for the minute.

Teatime teaser: AUTOBURN -> RUNABOUT

Round 6: L P L D I O I A S

C1: PALLID (6)
C2: PALLID (6)
DC: LIPIDS (6)
OT: ALLODS (6) LIPOID (6) PLAIDS (6) SOLIDI (6)
Score: 20–33 (max 45)

A very flat round ups everyone's score by 6... no easy words there though.

Round 7: G N C T E I E P A

C1: EATING (6)
C2: PECTIN (6)
DC: PATIENCE (8)
Score: 26–39 (max 53)

And another 6 for both, however Phil declares with glee that he finally got his first 8 without behind told by Susie.

Round 8: M T G E A U I N V

C1: TEAMING (7)
C2: NATIVE (6)
DC: MUTAGEN (7) AUGMENT (7)
OT: MINTAGE (7) TEGMINA (7) VINTAGE (7)
Score: 33–39 (max 60)

A MUTAGEN, rather nastily, is an agent such as radiation which causes genetic mutation. Susan closes the gap on Neil now.

Round 9: P K D O E A Z S I

C1: SPEAK (5)
C2: OKAPIS (6)
DC: ADIPOSE (7)
Score: 33–45 (max 67)

A very nice 6 by Neil gets his lead back to above 10, however Phil gives us the 7, which is where LIPIDS are stored. An OKAPI is a giraffe-like creature mainly found in the Democratic Republic of Congo... or the zoo as Phil points out.

Round 10: 25, 1, 6, 10, 10, 5. Target: 732.

C1: 735.
C2: 730. (6+1)*(10*10)+25+5 (7)
RR: 732. ((25*10)-6)*((10/5)+1) (10)
Score: 33–52 (max 77)

Neil has taken his lead to 19 now and that could be that. Again Rachel shows us how to do it. This numbers round had 5 of the same numbers as the first :!:

Teatime teaser: GASSOARS -> SARGASSO

Round 11: C Y N C O E O T T

C1: TYCOON (6)
C2: COTTON (6)
DC: COYOTE (6) COTTONY (7)
OT: COCOTTE (7)
Score: 39–58 (max 84)

A very nice 6 from Susan keeps her hopes alive, however Neil could have sealed the tie had he added a Y to his.

Round 12: Q L S S A U A E R

C1: SQUARE (6)
C2: QUASARS (7)
DC: SQUEALS (7) SQUARES (7)
OT: LASQUES (7)
Score: 39–65 (max 91)

Phwoar, an excellent spot from Neil does finish the game - it's an astronomical term. However, much to her dismay, Susan could have added the S to her 6 :!: Silly billy...

Round 13: F V D T O E I D O

C1: FOOTED (6)
C2: DEVOID (6)
DC: FOETID (6) FOODIE (6)
OT: DOITED (6) FOOTIE (6) VOIDED (6)
Score: 45–71 (max 97)

And another completely flat round makes Susan's score a bit more respectable.

Round 14: 50, 8, 9, 3, 9, 4. Target: 485.

C1: 485. (9*50)+(8*4)+3 (10)
C2: 485. (9*50)+(8*4)+3 (10)
Score: 55–81 (max 107)

And for the first time today, at least one of the contestants gets 10 points on the numbers.

Round 15: R O O N I S O U T

No one buzzes. The answer was NOTORIOUS.
Final Score: 55–81 (max 117)

But neither can solve the conundrum, nobody in the audience can either... but Rachel can! She says she knows it from a 90s song.
Neil played pretty well today, coming up with some very nice words which could see him staying for a few more shows. Did anyone else think he sounded like Kevin Ashman? No... thought not.
No obscure fish or plants today. :(

That's me for another 2 weeks. :D
