Debbi is a member of this forum and... erm... has a husband called Paul. Sorry, I'm writing this after a brain-cell destroying weekend in Cardiff and Swansea (awesome nightlife, lovely people) and I can't really remember anything else. Other than she looks pretty fine (I'm intentionally leaving that open to interpretation). Today she's playing Alastair, a footballing, cricketing, table-tennis-playing, pool shark cum farmer from North Allerton in Yorkshire. And what a thoroughly nice chap he seems too.

Round 1: R S P R E A O T E

C1: operaters
C2: REPEATS (7)
DC: PERORATES (18)
Score: 0–7 (max 18)
All the Countdown nerds' (you know who you are) eyes lit up as Debbi announced a vowel after the opening 8 letters, knowing it would lead to a certain 9. Unfortunately probably for Debbi, it threw up an E for one of the obscure ones; to perorate is to speak at length.

Round 2: R I M E R A T U S

C1: MUSTIER (7)
C2: STREAM (6)
DC: ARMREST (7)
OT: MURIATES (8)
Score: 7–7 (max 26)

Round 3: N C T A E I A D N

C1: DECANT (6)
C2: DANCE (5)
DC: INCANTED (8)
Score: 13–7 (max 34)

Round 4: B A N U D A D O S

C1: ABOUNDS (7)
C2: ABOUNDS (7)
DC: DADOS (5) DADAS (5)
OT: AOUDADS (7)
Score: 20–14 (max 41)

Round 5: 25, 100, 5, 1, 6, 9. Target: 101.

C1: 101. 100+1 (10)
C2: 101. 6-5+100 (10)
Score: 30–24 (max 51)

Teatime teaser: HATESPUD -> DUSTHEAP

Round 6: N E R A V E T E S

C1: VETERANS (8)
C2: VENEERS (7)
DC: TAVERNS (7) EVENTERS (8)
OT: ENERVATES (18) VENERATES (18)
Score: 38–24 (max 69)

Round 7: P Z K A E N L I S

C1: PLANKS (6)
C2: SPANIEL (7)
OT: ALPINES (7) PINEALS (7)
Score: 38–31 (max 76)

Round 8: N O M E N O C I H

C1: CHIME (5)
C2: CHIME (5)
DC: INCOME (6)
OT: NEOCON (6) OCHONE (6)
Score: 43–36 (max 82)

Round 9: B R U I E S C R I

C1: CRUISER (7)
C2: CURRIES (7)
DC: BRUISER (7)
OT: CRUISIE (7) RUBRICS (7) SCRIBER (7) SUCRIER (7)
Score: 50–43 (max 89)

Round 10: 75, 5, 8, 8, 7, 9. Target: 362.

C1: 359. 75*5-8-8 (7)
C2: 363. Mistake in working.
CV: 362. (75-8+7)*5-8 (10)
Score: 57–43 (max 99)

D'oh - Alastair looked like he was going to level the scores... I think he most likely had 361 (as he made his way to 360 with the 9 and 8 remaining) but was clearly still working out as the time ran out, and got a bit confused about which side of 362 he was one away from. (He could have made his 12 to subtract by doing 8+8/(9-7) btw)

Teatime teaser: LOVERIDE -> EVILDOER

Round 11: M L M D E O A F E

C1: DEFAME (6)
C2: FOAMED (6)
DC: FLAMED (6)
OT: ELODEA (6) FEMALE (6) FOALED (6) LAMMED (6) LEAFED (6) LOAFED (6) OEDEMA (6)
Score: 63–49 (max 105)

Round 12: G A Q O P A T I X

C1: PATIO (5)
C2: PATIO (5)
DC: PAX
OT: GAITA (5) TAIGA (5)
Score: 68–54 (max 110)

Round 13: G F W E I E N T R

C1: FINGER (6)
C2: freting
DC: WINTER (6) WINGER (6) INTEGER (7) REEFING (7)
OT: FREEING (7) TREEING (7)
Score: 74–54 (max 117)

Round 14: 100, 1, 1, 3, 9, 5. Target: 804.

C1: 804. (9-1)*100+3+1 (10)
C2: 804. (9-1)*100+3+1 (10)
Score: 84–64 (max 127)

Debbi probably breathes a little sigh of relief as an easy numbers game appears, thus ending Alastair's challenge once and for all.

Round 15: D E A T H R E S T

C1 buzzes on 23 seconds to say HEADSTART which is incorrect.
C2 does not buzz.
The answer was SHATTERED.
Score: 84–64 (max 137)

So Debbi claims her third win, albeit with a slightly faltering display compared to her first two which made the game a lot closer than she'll probably feel it should have been. Well done!
