Champion Neil MacKenzie is a professional footballer currently on the books of Notts County. This is his fourth appearance, although two of his three victories have come on crucial conundrums so he's sailed a little close to the wind on occasions. He's a fairly, quiet, modest and very likeable chap, and I want him to do really well not just because I like him a lot (and he's certainly easy on the eye for those of us who like to watch at home with a large vibrator), but also because Joseph Bolas has vowed to take his own life if Neil goes onto become an octochamp.

Attempting to stop Neil today is Emlyn Lewis from Melksham in Wiltshire (I'm assuming he still lives there, I think they just said he was born there). Emlyn is married to Elaine, has two children, Simon and Vicky, and was fortunate enough to fly on Concorde.

DC: ABUSERS (7)
OT: SAUGERS (7) SERANGS (7) ARGUSES (7) BURGESS (7) GRABENS (7)

A sauger is a slender North American pike-perch with silver eyes which is active at twilight and at night. A serang is an Asian head of a Lascar crew (? - wtf does that mean?). An argus is a type of pheasant, a butterfly, and a type of fish. A burgess is an inhabitant of a town or borough with full rights of citizenship, or an MP or magistrate of such a place. A graben is an elongated block of the earth's crust lying between two faults and displaced downwards relative to the blocks on either side, as in a rift valley. Bangers are sausages, and about the only thing I understand in that entire paragraph :?

DC: ISOBAR (6) CARBOYS (7)
OT: CABRIOS (7)

C2: AUDITS (6)
DC: ADJUST (6) DAUNTS (6)
OT: ASQUINT (7) QUINTAS (7)
Score: 87–59 (max 108)
Asquint means with a glance to one side or from the corner of the eye, and a quinta is a Spanish word for a large house in the country.

Round 14: 50, 2, 5, 5, 10, 6. Target: 696.
C1: 694.((5+5)*2+50)*`10-6 (7)
C2: -
CV: 695. (10+6-2)*50-5 (7)
Score: 94–59 (max 115)

Round 15: L A Z Y L O U S E
C1 buzzes on 3 seconds to say ZEALOUSLY which is correct.
Score: 104–59 (max 125)

Good quick spot from Neil on the conundrum sees him notch a second century as he chalks up a comfortable fourth win. He's scoring well so even if he doesn't make it to the eight (come on Neil) we could well still see him back for the finals!

Lascars were Indian seamen who were used and generally abused by British shipping companies back in the day. Each gang of them was supervised by a serang.
