Round 1: D S G U E I E T B

C1: BUDGETS (7)
C2: BUDGETS (7)
DC: SUBEDIT (7) GUESTED (7)
OT: BESUITED (8)
Score: 7–7 (max 8)

A nice flat start to today's proceedings. :D

Round 2: C N P I O E A W N

C1: PAEONIC (7)
C2: PAEONIC (7)
DC: PINNACE (7)
Score: 14–14 (max 15)

2 brilliant 7's found by all involved here. 8-)

Round 3: E I T D L A O E T

C1: DILATE (6)
C2: TOILETED (8)
OT: ETIOLATED (18)
Score: 14–22 (max 33)

Jonathan takes the lead with that 8, but the 9 was missed by all here, including me in this game that I played a bit ago, against a certain recent octochamp. http://apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=2 ... 7#r3076247

Amazingly I missed TOILETED and ETIOLATED while watching it today.

To ETIOLATE is to cause a plant to whiten or grow pale by excluding light.

Round 4: R T M I E U S C E

C1: MUSTIER (7)
C2: MUSTIER (7)
DC: EMERITUS (8)
OT: CUTESIER (8) EUCRITES (8)
Score: 21–29 (max 41)

CUTESIER derives from CUTESY, meaning forcedly and consciously cute.

Round 5: 25, 1, 8, 9, 3, 10. Target: 306.

C1: 307. ((9 + 3) x 25) + 8 - 1 (7)
C2: 307. ((9 + 3) x 25) + 8 - 1 (7)
RR: 306. (((10 - 8) x 25) + 1) x (9 - 3) (10)
Score: 28–36 (max 51)

Hmmm, this numbers is trickier than it looks, but Rachel manages to show us how it's done. 8-)

Continuing with his "Living In The Modern World" theme, Tim talks about televisions, and why we should leave them alone and get outdoors.

Teatime teaser: BEADMUSH -> AMBUSHED

Round 6: Q T N O A I R D A

C1: RADIANT (7)
C2: QINTAR (6)
Score: 35–36 (max 58)

An impressive U-less Q word from Jonathan is trumped by Ryan's darrenic 7.

Round 7: M K R O A P S D O

C1: SPARK (5)
C2: PROSOMA (7)
DC: OAK (3)
Score: 35–43 (max 65)

But, Jonathan returns the favour with a fantastic darrenic 7 of his own. 8-)

Interestingly during the 30 seconds of this round, Tim is spotted doing his "Pen Behind The Ear" trick with Susie completely unaware of what he's doing :!:  8-)

Round 8: F N T O A I S E P

C1: PANTIES (7)
C2: POINTES (7)
DC: OPIATES (7)
OT: ATONIES (7) ATOPIES (7) SAPIENT (7)
Score: 42–50 (max 72)

Round 9: A E A G D R A E Y

C1: YARDAGE (7)
C2: GEARED (6)
DC: GREEDY (6) ADAGE (5)
Score: 49–50 (max 79)

A tricky selection here. I was actually happy with GREYED, but get the darren to shrink the gap down to 1 point again.

Susie's Origin Of Words tells of the origin of the phrases "to keep your powder dry", "Guy", "a flash in the pan", "to hang fire".

Round 10: 100, 7, 9, 6, 3, 10. Target: 520.

C1: 516. Mistake in working.
C2: 520. Mistake in working.
RR: 520. (6 x 7 x 10) + 100 (10)
Score: 49–50 (max 89)

Oh dear. This almost seems like a case of déjà vu all over again, with regards to yesterday's 2nd numbers game. Jonathan thinks he has it, but is wrong, whereas Ryan thinks he is 4 away, but was actually just about to hit the target. Rachel is left to pick up the pieces.

Teatime teaser: ABBASELL -> BASEBALL

Round 11: G N S U O U N L O

C1: LUNGS (5)
C2: UNSUNG (6)
DC: UNSLUNG (7)
Score: 49–56 (max 96)

Jonathan gets a good 6 from that horrible set, but if he'd stuck the L in the middle, he'd have had the darrenic 7.

Round 12: S L T E I A F P E

C1: PETALS (6)
C2: FLEAPITS (8)
DC: EPILATES (8)
OT: LEAFIEST (8)
Score: 49–64 (max 104)

Another brilliant 8 there from Jonathan sees his lead go into double figures. Surely it's his to lose now :!:

Round 13: B S A I W D N U E

C1: UNBIASED (8)
C2: ABUSED (6)
Score: 57–64 (max 112)

Oh my god :!:  :o Suddenly, the game is wide open again with Ryan's darrenic 8.

Round 14: 100, 2, 9, 9, 6, 3. Target: 207.

C1: 207. (100 x 2) + 9 - (6 / 3) (10)
C2: 207. (100 x 2) + 9 - (6 / 3) (10)
Score: 67–74 (max 122)

The 1 large results in a straightforward numbers game, meaning that the conundrum is crucial.

Round 15: W I N T E R N U T

C1 buzzes on 5.25 seconds to say UNWRITTEN which is correct.
Score: 77–74 (max 132)

Not quite as quick as yesterday, but Ryan becomes the first person who started in this series to win more than 1 game. Very unlucky was Jonathan as he came up with some brilliant words, like TOILETED and PROSOMA, but a lack of consistency cost him big time today. And in the end, the only time Ryan was in the lead, was the time where it mattered the most.

I must admit, I was well certain we were going to see the start of our 2nd octochamp of this series, but it turned out not to be. :( But, maybe Ryan will become Octochamp No.2 :?: Who knows :?:

After getting over this, I'll be back next Wednesday with my net installment.

Till then, bye bye.

FTR, EUCRITES should also be listed under OT; I guess it's missing from the word list used by the recap writer, but it's in my version of JimDic.
