Post by James Robinson »

Welcome to the 2nd half of the Robinson Recap Double Bill. If you're stuck at home because of the ice & snow, then let me warm you up with a nice recap of warming Countdown goodness. ;) :) :D

Countdown recap for Thursday 14 January 2010.

C1: Champion Oliver Garner (2 wins, 189 points.) Our very own Apteforumite from New Malden, Surrey. His ambition was to win 1 or 2 games of Countdown. AMBITION ACCOMPLISHED ;) He also won a 12 and under national Sudoku championship a couple of years ago.
C2: Challenger Andy Hewitt. From Colchester, Essex. He works as a forklift truck driver for a "well-known Scottish soup company". (Is there one :?: ) He's married and has 2 children. He is the drummer in a rock band called Morphius, who like our very own Alec Rivers, have done a cover of the Countdown theme tune.
DC: Susie Dent and Brian Capron.
RR: Rachel Riley.
OT: Other words or solutions.

C1: ZETETIC (7)
C2: PETITE (6)

C1: ROADIES (7)
C2: CARDIES (7)

C1: 211. (7 x 10 x (2 + 1)) + 1 (10)
C2: 211. (7 x 10 x (2 + 1)) + 1 (10)
Score: 113–67 (max 119)

A 3rd easy numbers game with a 200-ish target give Oliver the highest score of the series, beating the record set by him yesterday, which previously beat the record set by him the day before. :P

Round 15: F A B T R E E E E

C1 buzzes on 28.5 seconds to say nothing.
C2 buzzes on 29.5 seconds to say "I just want to press the buzzer!".
The answer was BEEFEATER.
Score: 113–67 (max 129)

After Oliver's mind goes blank, Andy hits the buzzer for the sake of it, and why not. He's enjoyed his day, but not as much as Oliver who reaches his 3rd win.

Another fantastic performance by Oliver, but after getting Tuesday's conundrum in 0.1 seconds, these 2 blank conundrums maybe of some concern, but if he continues his good form, he'll surely improve his conundrum record.

That's me done for the week, until next Wednesday, bye bye.

Thanks for the mention, James — great recap!

I'm hoping Damian will have a listen to it and select a really good bit to play on the show. ;)

Maybe if you improve your skills, and get on the show, Damian will have no choice but to play it. ;) :) :D
