Round 1: R U T W O S O D E

Jasamrit: wooders (try)
Meha: ROOSTED (7)
DC: OUTROWED (8) OUTSWORE (8)
OT: OUTDOERS (8)
Score: 0–7 (max 8, jos 8)
Darren-o-meter: 0/1 (0%)

No WOODERS^, so Meha takes an early lead.

Round 2: G U O D A C R E Y

Jasamrit: COURAGE (7)
Meha: CARED (5)
DC: CORDAGE (7)
OT: GAUDERY (7)
Score: 7–7 (max 15, jos 15)
Darren-o-meter: 0/2 (0%)

Jasamrit levels the tie with a seven.

Round 3: 25, 9, 5, 7, 10, 3. Target: 373.

Jasamrit: 373. (10 + 5) × 25 − (9 − 7) (10)
Meha: 372.
Score: 17–7 (max 25, jos 25)

Astonished that Meha missed this - Jasamrit now leads by 10.

Teatime teaser: HAMRODEO -> HEADROOM

Round 4: M I S E D O T B A

Jasamrit: BOASTED (7)
Meha: BOASTED (7)
DC: ATOMISED (8) mambo
OT: MODISTAE (8)
Score: 24–14 (max 33, jos 33)
Darren-o-meter: 0/3 (0%)

Len didn't go to Eton. Jasamrit did. Jasamrit used to do rowing and badminton, and got to use some of the Olympics equipment from 2012. As someone who has strong links to Harrow School (despite not going there), I'm here to tell you that they refer to Eton as "Slough Grammar".

Round 5: R E U L D I S T S

Jasamrit: DILUTERS (8) (try)
Meha: DUSTIER (7)
DC: STRIDES (7) SURLIEST (8) STUDLIER (8)
OT: STRUDELS (8) STUDIERS (8)
Score: 32–14 (max 41, jos 41)
Darren-o-meter: 0/4 (0%)

DILUTERS is an excellent try and Jasamrit now leads convincingly, with more than double Meha's score.

Round 6: 75, 100, 1, 2, 10, 4. Target: 589.

Jasamrit: 589. 4 × 2 × 75 − 10 − 1 (10)
Meha: 589. (4 + 2) × 100 − 10 − 1 (10)
Score: 42–24 (max 51, jos 51)

thank u, next

Len talks about the history of his dance studio in Dartford, which actually included my mother in the past - including a "sale" where you paid for your left foot and they'll teach your right foot free of charge - but talks about the boom brought on by Strictly Come Dancing in 2004, and how he got the job on Strictly, when he was recommended by Erin Boag (Anton Du Beke's professional dance partner) to a producer just a week before it started, and he had a screen test where he was asked to judge VHS tapes of dances.

(For our younger readers, a videotape was a physical device which recorded clips, kind of like a physical YouTube of its day.)

Round 7: P I L C N E B E T

Jasamrit: PENCIL (6)
Meha: biten
DC: PENTILE (7)
OT: CENTILE (7) PENIBLE (7) TELEPIC (7)
Score: 48–24 (max 58, jos 58)
Darren-o-meter: 0/5 (0%)

Meha incorrectly spells BITTEN, and in fairness, given the Americans' acceptance of "gotten", "biten" may not be far off in 2040.

Round 8: U A M A R O U L K

Jasamrit: ALARM (5)
Meha: MOLAR (5)
DC: AMORAL (6)
OT: ALARUM (6) KOAUAU (6) KUMARA (6) MAKORA (6) MAKULU (6) MALUKA (6) MARKAL (6) MARULA (6) MORULA (6)
Score: 53–29 (max 64, jos 64)
Darren-o-meter: 0/6 (0%)

Both contestants miss approximately a billion 6s.

Round 9: 50, 6, 4, 4, 8, 5. Target: 180.

Jasamrit: 180. (8 × 5 + 50) × (6 − 4) (10)
Meha: 180. 50 × 4 − 5 × 4 (10)
Score: 63–39 (max 74, jos 74)

thank u, next

Teatime teaser: PINGLASS -> SAPLINGS

Round 10: T A C S O V I E G

Jasamrit: CAGIEST (7)
Meha: CAGIEST (7) (risky)
DC: OCTAVES (7) AVOCETS (7) COSTIVE (7) VEG (3)
OT: ACTIVES (7) AGOSTIC (7) SOCIATE (7)
Score: 70–46 (max 81, jos 81)
Darren-o-meter: 0/7 (0%)

Sevens for both contestants in another very flat round.

Round 11: F E I M T L O R S

Jasamrit: FLORIST (7)
Meha: FLORIST (7)
DC: FIRMEST (7)
OT: TREFOILS (8)
Score: 77–53 (max 89, jos 88)
Darren-o-meter: 1/8 (13%)

Sevens here as Susie lets go of the max for the first time today, whilst Len cracks jokes about being FIRMEST.

OOW Susie talks about the origin of Alcatraz.

Round 12: I H D E N O P A L

Jasamrit: PHONED (6)
Meha: LOANED (6)
DC: PINHEAD (7) DIAPHONE (8)
OT: APHELION (8) LIONHEAD (8) PALINODE (8) PINHOLED (8)
Score: 83–59 (max 97, jos 96)
Darren-o-meter: 1/9 (11%)

Sixes once more, whilst there are several eights that go unnoticed.

Round 13: R E E N I G S Z W

Jasamrit: SWINGER (7)
Meha: weering (risky)
DC: WEEING (6) RESEWING (8) ZINGERS (7)
Score: 90–59 (max 105, jos 104)
Darren-o-meter: 2/10 (20%)

Meha is goaded into gambling on a seven, which was a worthy gamble but it doesn't pay off, and Jasamrit wins his seventh game.

Round 14: 25, 50, 100, 4, 3, 1. Target: 133.

Jasamrit: 133. 100 + 25 + (3 − 1) × 4 (10)
Meha: 133. 100 + 25 + 4 + 3 + 1 (10)
Score: 100–69 (max 115, jos 114)

thank u, next
thank u, next

i'm so [censored by channel four] grateful for my ex

Round 15: D I G I T M A T E

Meha buzzes on 13.5 seconds to say MITIGATED which is correct.
Final Score: 100–79 (max 125, jos 124)

Meha's Nick Hewer-esque solve gives her a very respectable score of 79, whilst Jasamrit is back tomorrow thanks to his second century. Can he make it to octochampdom? We'll find out tomorrow...

... if England vs Bangladesh in the World T20 doesn't overrun.
