Round 1: X D S I E O B T N

Pete: BONIEST (7)
John: INDEX (5)
DC: OXIDES (6) BOXIEST (7)
OT: BONXIES (7) INBOXED (7) INBOXES (7) INDEBTS (7) NIDEOTS (7)
Score: 7–0 (max 7)

Great start for Pete here. :) :) :)

A BONXIE is another name for the great skua (seabird).
To INDEBT is to cause someone to owe money or an obligation.
A NIDEOT (or NIDIOT) is a humorous term for an idiot or a fool.

Round 2: R Z T U O E C S A

Pete: COASTER (7)
John: CURATES (7)
DC: OUTRACES (8)
Score: 14–7 (max 15)

DC OUTRACES the players with their 8, but it's 7 each for our players.

Round 3: 100, 2, 1, 4, 4, 1. Target: 435.

Pete: 435. (((4 x 2) + 1 + 100) x 4) - 1 (10)
John: 432.
Score: 24–7 (max 25)

A very small bunch of numbers, but Pete finds the perfect method. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Teatime teaser: ACTORPAIN -> TROPICANA

Round 4: T P S O I E F L O

Pete: LOOPIEST (8)
John: fooliest
OT: POOFIEST (8)
Score: 32–7 (max 33)

Going -IEST isn't always a bad idea, but in this case, being the LOOPIEST is better than being the fooliest...

Round 5: H Y M N A E A T S

Pete: STAMEN (6)
John: SHANTY (6)
DC: HYENAS (6) AMNESTY (7) NAMASTE (7)
OT: ANTHEMS (7) ATHAMES (7) HAMATES (7) HYAENAS (7) MAHANTS (7) MANTAYS (7) MAYTHES (7) MENTHAS (7) SHAYTAN (7) SMETANA (7)
Score: 38–13 (max 40)

Loads of 7's, but it's 6's for Pete and John here.

An ATHAME is a black-handled, double-edged ritual knife used in modern witchcraft.
A HAMATE is a carpal bone situated on the lower outside edge of the hand. It has a hook-shaped projection on the palmar side to which muscles of the little finger are attached.
In Hinduism, a MAHANT is a chief priest of a temple or the head of a monastery.
In Scotland, a MANTAY (or MANTY) is a kind of loose gown or mantle.
A MAYTHE is any of various white-rayed species of camomile (genus Anthemis and perhaps allied genera), chiefly weeds of cultivated ground; especially (also more fully "stinking maythe") stinking camomile, Anthemis cotula.
A MENTHA is a plant of the genus of the family Lamiaceae (Labiatae), consisting of various strongly aromatic plants, especially herbs, with spikes or whorls of small lilac flowers having four equal stamens and a four-lobed corolla.
SMETANA is sour cream.

Round 6: 100, 7, 3, 10, 6, 7. Target: 937.

Pete: 937. ((100 - 7) x 10) + 7 (10)
John: 936.
Score: 48–13 (max 50)

Another top numbers solve from Pete, and this "curse" seems to be ending fast....

Nina talks about working as a catering assistant in hospitals around Huddersfield.

Round 7: F T R O I E T R A

Pete: FATTIER (7)
John: FATTIER (7)
DC: ROTATE (6) ROTIFER (7)
OT: RETROFIT (8)
Score: 55–20 (max 58)

Both players are feeling FATTIER, but everyone avoids the cool 8.

Round 8: B W C I E E C P L

Pete: PIECE (5)
John: BLEEP (5)
DC: WEEP (4) CLEPE (5)
OT: BELIE (5) BICEP (5) CELEB (5) PLEBE (5)
Score: 60–25 (max 63)

Definitely a horrific set here, and unsurprisingly, 5 is tops here.

A PLEBE is an American term for a newly entered cadet or freshman, especially at a military or naval academy.

Round 9: 100, 6, 7, 9, 5, 9. Target: 766.

Pete: 766. ((100 + 9) x 7) + 9 - 6 (10)
John: 766. ((100 + 9) x 7) + 9 - 6 (10)
Score: 70–35 (max 73)

John will no doubt be happy that he solved a numbers game, but his chances of winning are still very low, it has to be said.

Teatime teaser: UNGREASED -> DUNGAREES

Round 10: K Y S U O I D R A

Pete: RADIOS (6)
John: RADIUS (6)
DC: RADIOUS (7)
OT: DYSURIA (7)
Score: 76–41 (max 80)

A fusion of the players' offerings would've made a nice 7, but 6 will do.

DYSURIA is painful or difficult urination.

Round 11: S T G E A I Q S T

Pete: STAGES (6)
John: STAGES (6)
DC: STAGIEST (8)
Score: 82–47 (max 88)

And extending STAGES would've given the darrenic 8 of STAGIEST...

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of "wishbone".

Round 12: R M P E U A H J M

Pete: HAMPER (6)
John: JUMPER (6)
DC: HAMMER (6)
OT: HUMMER (6) JAMMER (6) MUMPER (6)
Score: 88–53 (max 94)

Just 6 6's ending in -ER here... :P :P :P

A MUMPER is a beggar, a mendicant; a person who sponges on others.

Round 13: C L W D I O E M A

Pete: MEDICAL (7)
John: DECIMAL (7)
DC: MELODICA (8)
OT: COMEDIAL (8)
Score: 95–60 (max 102)

And Pete has wrapped up his 2nd win, and can he now get a century secured... :?: :?: :?:

COMEDIAL is an adjective meaning of, relating to, or characteristic of comedy.

Round 14: 100, 6, 9, 10, 1, 2. Target: 667.

Pete: 667. ((100 + 9) x 6) + 10 + 1 + 2 (10)
John: 667. ((100 + 9) x 6) + 10 + 1 + 2 (10)
Score: 105–70 (max 112)

And that's a great ton for Pete, his performance has been very impressive today.

Round 15: C O M E D I A N N

Pete buzzes on 9 seconds to say DOMINANCE which is correct.
Final Score: 115–70 (max 122)

And that's a brilliant way to end the show, as Pete wins his second show, only dropping 7 points in the process too. :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

Can he make it a hat-trick tomorrow... :?: :?: :?:
