Enjoy the show.

Round 1: O I A O D R Z B U

Brendan: BROOD (5)
Tony: ardour
DC: BOUDOIR (7)
Score: 5–0 (max 7)

Tony has double vision with his R's, and Brendan takes the lead.

Round 2: T A N T E C L E M

Brendan: TENTACLE (8)
Tony: METAL (5)
DC: CLEMENT (7) CATTLEMEN (18)
Score: 13–0 (max 25)

Now that's a great spot by Brendan, as he confirms his early momentum.

Round 3: 75, 100, 2, 9, 6, 4. Target: 207.

Brendan: 207. ((6 + 2) x 4) + 100 + 75 (10)
Tony: 207. ((6 - 4) x 100) + 9 - 2 (10)
Score: 23–10 (max 35)

Tony gets off the mark thanks to a simple number game.

Teatime teaser: CREAMPEAK -> PACEMAKER

Round 4: N A D O R W E Y I

Brendan: WANDER (6)
Tony: DOWN (4)
DC: DOWNIER (7) DOWNY (5)
OT: ANEROID (7) RIDEWAY (7) YAWNIER (7)
Score: 29–10 (max 42)

Brendan is just in complete control, as Tony is stuck on 4.

A RIDEWAY is another name for a bridle path.

Round 5: O U I O K N V L I

Brendan: VIOLIN (6)
Tony: OINK (4)
OT: UNLOOK (6)
Score: 35–10 (max 48)

He's certainly stringing a few good words together, isn't he... :?: :?: :P :P

To UNLOOK is to reverse a previous act of looking at a person or thing.

Round 6: 75, 2, 9, 10, 6, 8. Target: 575.

Brendan: 575. (75 x 8) - (9 + 6 + 10) (10)
Tony: 572.
Score: 45–10 (max 58)

No numbers block for Brendan today, and poor old Tony is being annihilated.... :( :( :(

Dr. Phil's bit is cut out for unknown reasons....

Round 7: E O I U Y R T F S

Brendan: fruities
Tony: FORTIES (7)
DC: FUSTIER (7)
OT: FROSTIE (7) RYOTEIS (7) STORIFY (7) SURFEIT (7)
Score: 45–17 (max 65)

Well, a rare mistake by Brendan, but it's nice for Tony to finally score in a letters game. :) :) :)

In Australia, a FROSTIE is an ice-cold can or bottle of beer.
In Japan, a RYOTEI is a traditional restaurant, especially a prestigious one.
To STORIFY is to arrange bee boxes or other components of an artificial hive in a vertical stack.

Round 8: M I C T E J N A I

Brendan: MAIN (4)
Tony: TAME (4)
DC: CINEMA (6)
OT: MICANITE (8)
Score: 49–21 (max 73)

Back to 4's yet again here... :P :P :P

MICANITE is a mouldable resin containing small particles of mica, used as an electrical insulating material.

Round 9: 25, 100, 8, 4, 3, 9. Target: 734.

Brendan: 734. ((4 + 3) x 100) + 25 + 9 (10)
Tony: 734. (100 x 8) - (25 x 3) + 9 (10)
Score: 59–31 (max 83)

Two different methods, but two different lots of 10 points will do. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Teatime teaser: ABITCRUEL -> LUBRICATE

Round 10: X E R S U T H E I

Brendan: suiter
Tony: EXERT (5)
DC: HIRSUTE (7)
OT: EXISTER (7) TRUEISH (7)
Score: 59–36 (max 90)

Hmmm, why Tony didn't stick the S on EXERT, I don't know, but he does at least give a correct answer, unlike Brendan...

An EXISTER is a person who or thing which exists.
TRUEISH (or TRUISH) means somewhat true; almost true.

Round 11: O A U E L D S C A

Brendan: CLOSED (6)
Tony: SCALED (6)
DC: CASELOAD (8)
Score: 65–42 (max 98)

A great CASELOAD from DC, as the players stick on 6.

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of some oxymorons.

Round 12: N E V D O T N I C

Brendan: CONTEND (7)
Tony: NOTED (5)
DC: CONVENT (7) INVENT (6)
OT: CONNIVED (8)
Score: 72–42 (max 106)

Well, Brendan's nearly there, as Tony has been given too much to CONTEND with, but DC missing CONNIVED is a bit of a shock...

Round 13: O A A E F B D R A

Brendan: BARD (4)
Tony: FORBADE (7)
DC: ABOARD (6)
Score: 72–49 (max 113)

Now that might not be enough to keep him in the game, but that's not a bad way to bow out by Tony there. ;) :) :D

Round 14: 2, 9, 10, 1, 8, 6. Target: 459.

Brendan: 459. ((10 x 6) - 8 - 1) x 9 (10)
Tony: 459. (((8 x 6) - 2) x 10) - 1 (10)
Score: 82–59 (max 123)

Time for some 6 small action for the first time since the comeback, and it's a nice and easy one too. :) :) :)

Round 15: G R A N I N R O W

Tony buzzes on 8.25 seconds to say ARROWING which is incorrect.
Brendan does not buzz.
The answer was NARROWING.
Final Score: 82–59 (max 133)

Ouchy, ouchy, ouchy, such a cruel way for Tony to mess up the conundrum, thankfully not crucial in terms of the result.

So, Brendan has his 3rd win, and will he achieve half-octochampdom tomorrow.... :?: :?: :?:

We'll find out then. ;) ;) ;)
