David: SANDIER (7)
Lee: ENDORSE (7)
DC: ANEROIDS (8) NEARSIDE (8)
OT: ANODISER (8) ARSENIDE (8) ORDINEES (8) REASONED (8) SIDEREAN (8)
Score: 7–7 (max 8)

5 vowels to start the day, and both players get 7's, whilst there are many 8's to find.

An ARSENIDE is a binary compound of arsenic with a metallic element.
An ORDINEE is a newly ordained deacon, or a candidate for ordination to the priesthood.

Round 2: H D N I O U T V E

David: HUNTED (6)
Lee: VOTED (5)
DC: DEVOUT (6) HIDEOUT (7)
OT: OUTVIED (7)
Score: 13–7 (max 15)

David HUNTED down that 6 to take the lead.

To OUTVIE is to outdo in competition or rivalry.

Round 3: 75, 8, 2, 1, 1, 5. Target: 353.

David: 351. Mistake in working.
Lee: -
RR: 353. ((75 - (8 / 2)) x 5) - 1 - 1 (10)
Score: 13–7 (max 25)

Oh dear, while Lee blanks, David messes up, leaving Rachel in the clear.

Teatime teaser: POUNDCLUE -> UNCOUPLED

Round 4: R K S A O I H C M

David: CHASM (5)
Lee: CHAIRS (6)
DC: CHOIRS (6) SHAMROCK (8)
OT: KACHORIS (8)
Score: 13–13 (max 33)

Lee levels up with his CHAIRS, but DC seem to have the luck of the Irish with their SHAMROCK.

In Indian cooking, a KACHORI is a puri stuffed with spiced lentils, potato, or beans.

Round 5: R X E A S Q O T L

David: EXTRAS (6)
Lee: EXALTS (6)
DC: exaltors
OT: OESTRAL (7) OLESTRA (7)
Score: 19–19 (max 40)

EX marks the spot there, but there are a couple of 7's hidden away.

OESTRAL (or OESTROUS or OESTRUS) means a recurring period of sexual receptivity and fertility in many female mammals.
OLESTRA is a synthetic compound used as a calorie-free substitute for fat in various foods because of its ability to pass through the body without being absorbed. It is a polyester derived from sucrose.

David: 212. (100 + 6) x 2 (10)
Lee: 212. (100 + 6) x 2 (10)
Score: 29–29 (max 50)

Round 7: R E C N D A U T I

David: CERTAIN (7)
Lee: TRANCED (7)
DC: TRADUCE (7) CENTAUR (7) CURTAINED (18)
Score: 36–36 (max 68)

DC get a great 9, but the scores remain level here...

Round 8: F N M O E A L G O

David: FLAGMEN (7)
Lee: GLEAM (5)
DC: MONOLEAF (8)
Score: 43–36 (max 76)

A top spot by David sees him regain his lead, whilst DC turn over a new leaf with a darrenic 8. 8-)

Round 9: 25, 3, 10, 8, 8, 5. Target: 877.

David: 876. ((10 - 3) x 5 x 25) + (8 / 8) (7)
Lee: -
RR: 877. ((((25 + 8) x 3) + 10) x 8) + 5 (10)
Score: 50–36 (max 86)

David doubles his advantage with his one, as Rachel stuns us all with a fantastic solve. 8-) 8-)

Teatime teaser: GIRLLUNGE -> GRUELLING

Round 10: S V R I A E F C B

David: FABRICS (7)
Lee: CRAVES (6)
DC: sacrifice ASCRIBE (7) FIACRES (7)
OT: BIFACES (7) CARBIES (7) SCARFIE (7) VARICES (7) VISCERA (7)
Score: 57–36 (max 93)

7's aplenty again, but Lee can't find one, leaving David in pole position for the win now....

A BIFACE is a type of prehistoric stone implement flaked on both faces.
A CARBIE is an Australian/New Zealand term for a carburettor.
A SCARFIE is an informal term for a student at the University of Otago, New Zealand.
In medicine, a VARIX (plural VARICES) is a varicose vein, and in zoology, it's each of the ridges on the shell of a gastropod mollusc, marking a former position of the aperture.
A VISCUS (plural VISCERA) is the internal organs in the main cavities of the body, especially those in the abdomen, e.g. the intestines.

Round 11: G T A O N W I S L

David: LASTING (7)
Lee: WASTING (7)
DC: STOWING (7) AGONIST (7)
OT: ANTILOGS (8) LINGTOWS (8)
Score: 64–43 (max 101)

Loads of 7 -ING words, but no-one spots the 8's around.

An ANTILOG (or ANTILOGARITHM) is the number of which a given number is the logarithm.
A LINGTOW is a Scottish term for a coil of rope worn over the shoulder by smugglers.

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of words which have a connection with Jesse James.

David: BEET (4)
Lee: TYPE (4)
DC: JEEP (4) JEEZE (5)
OT: JETEE (5) TEPEE (5)
Score: 75–54 (max 113)

Crikey, that's a nasty round is ever there was one, but it'll do for David who crosses the line for win #5.

A JETEE (or JITI or CHITI or JETTEE) is a climbing shrub, Marsdenia tenacissima (family Asclepiadaceae), native to hilly regions of north-eastern India and other parts of South and South-East Asia.
A TEPEE (or TEEPEE or TIPI) is a portable conical tent made of skins, cloth, or canvas on a frame of poles, used by North American Indians of the Plains and Great Lakes regions.

Round 14: 50, 75, 100, 25, 5, 7. Target: 239.

David: 238.
Lee: 239. (50 x 5) - ((100 / 25) + 7) (10)
Score: 75–64 (max 123)

A nice 4 large to mix it up a bit, but it works for Lee who gets a nice 10 points for his score...., will he cruelly lose by just 1 point now.... :?: :?: :?:

Round 15: D O T H I S S E D

No one buzzes. The answer was SHODDIEST.
Final Score: 75–64 (max 133)

Well, no, he doesn't, as neither player can spot the conundrum. So, David has 5 wins, and is now the highest ranked player who isn't an octochamp, although how long this series is going to last in anyone's guess at this moment in time.....

Can he become an octochamp on May Day...., stay tuned to find out :!: :!: :!: ;) :) :D
