Round 1: U I E R F D S O R

Danny: FURRIES (7)
Sue: SOURED (6)
OT: FROIDEUR (8)
Score: 7–0 (max 8)

Danny starts off with an early lead again, with everyone a bit cold to spot the darrenic 8. :P

FROIDEUR means coolness or reserve between people.

Round 2: T F W A I L S E O

Danny: FLOATS (6)
Sue: FEAST (5)
DC: WAIST (5) FOLIATES (8) FLOWIEST (8)
OT: FLOATIES (8)
Score: 13–0 (max 16)

Danny FLOATS further into the lead, although there were some 8's hidden in there.

A FLOATIE (or FLOATY) is an inflatable object on which a person may sit or recline while floating in water, or inflatable armbands for children to wear as a swimming aid.

Round 3: 2, 1, 7, 1, 3, 8. Target: 266.

Danny: 270. (8 + 1) x 3 x (2 + 1 + 7) (7)
Sue: -
RR: 266. ((2 x 8) + 3) x (1 + 1) x 7 (10)
Score: 20–0 (max 26)

Danny sticking with 6 small, which gets him more points, and leaves Sue still to get off the mark.

Teatime teaser: ACORNLIST -> CONTRAILS

Round 4: D M G U I N S E A

Danny: SEAMING (7)
Sue: DESIGN (6)
DC: GUINEAS (7) ENIGMAS (7) AMUSING (7)
OT: AGENDUMS (8) GAUDSMEN (8)
Score: 27–0 (max 34)

Not Sue's day at the moment, but there were also some hard 8's lurking....

An AGENDUM is a list of items for discussion at a meeting.

Round 5: I O E L T V A T V

Danny: VIOLATE (7)
Sue: VIOLET (6)
OT: OTAVITE (7)
Score: 34–0 (max 41)

Ouchy, ouchy, sounds so similar, but the points difference tells....

An OTAVITE is a mineral of the trigonal system consisting of cadmium carbonate, CdCO₃, and occurring as crusts of minute rhombohedral crystals, usually white or greyish white in colour.

Round 6: 100, 7, 5, 8, 3, 6. Target: 724.

Danny: 724. (7 x 100) + (8 x 3) (10)
Sue: 724. (7 x 100) + (8 x 3) (10)
Score: 44–10 (max 51)

Sue finally gets off the mark thanks to this simple numbers game. :)

Al talks about a campaign he has been involved with to help donating blood stem cells.

Round 7: I U E D C W N A C

Danny: WINCED (6)
Sue: WIDEN (5)
DC: INDUCE (6)
OT: CADUCEI (7)
Score: 50–10 (max 58)

Danny in complete control so far today.

A CADUCEUS (plural CADUCEI) is an ancient Greek or Roman herald's wand, typically one with two serpents twined round it, carried by the messenger god Hermes or Mercury.

Round 8: N R Q O I Y N E A

Danny: INNER (5)
Sue: RAINY (5)
DC: ANNOYER (7)
OT: RAYONNE (7)
Score: 55–15 (max 65)

A nasty round here, definitely a right ANNOYER :!: :!: :P :P

RAYONNE is a type of women's hood, typically one worn over another headdress, with the front edge pinned back in a circle.

Round 9: 10, 3, 5, 2, 5, 6. Target: 914.

Danny: 920. ((10 x (3 + 6)) + 2) x (5 + 5) (5)
Sue: 920. ((10 x (3 + 6)) + 2) x (5 + 5) (5)
RR: 913/915. (7)
OT: 915. ((6 x 5 x 10) + 5) x 3 (7)
Score: 60–20 (max 72)

More tough 6 small stuff, but this one is actually impossible to solve...

Teatime teaser: TUMMIESOP -> IMPOSTUME

Round 10: L K N U E O B D P

Danny: PLONKED (7)
Sue: PLONKED (7)
DC: PLUNKED (7)
OT: BUNKOED (7) PLOUKED (7)
Score: 67–27 (max 79)

Plenty of people getting PLONKED here :!: :!:

In America, to BUNKO is a dated term to swindle or cheat.
PLOUKED is an old Scottish term meaning covered with pimples, spotty.

Round 11: A U E B R S R O D

Danny: BOURSE (6)
Sue: broused
DC: ARBOURS (7) BOARDERS (8)
OT: ARBOURED (8) BORDURES (8) REBOARDS (8) SUBORDER (8)
Score: 73–27 (max 87)

Ouch, it needs to be a W for BROWSED of course..., but Danny is nearly home and dry anyway.

In heraldry, a BORDURE is a broad border used as a charge in a coat of arms, often as a mark of difference.
In biology, a SUBORDER is a taxonomic category that ranks below order and above family.

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of "chivying".

Round 12: H M T D I A I C E

Danny: CHIMED (6)
Sue: CHIMED (6)
DC: MATCHED (7) MITCHED (7)
Score: 79–33 (max 94)

Danny has the game wrapped up.

Round 13: A E O M N P R S H

Danny: MOANERS (7)
Sue: MOANERS (7)
DC: HORSEMAN (8) MANROPES (8)
OT: MENORAHS (8) MORPHEAS (8) PROSEMAN (8) RHAMNOSE (8)
Score: 86–40 (max 102)

Plenty of MOANERS here...

In medicine, a MORPHEA (or MORPHOEA) is specifically a form of scleroderma characterized by localized or circumscribed skin lesions; frequently with distinguishing word indicating the distribution or shape of lesions.
A PROSEMAN is a man who writes or speaks in prose; a prose author.
RHAMNOSE is sugar of the hexose class which occurs widely in plants, especially in berries of the common buckthorn.

Round 14: 100, 6, 9, 2, 5, 9. Target: 351.

Danny: 350. (((9 / 9) + 6) x 100) / 2 (7)
Sue: 354.
RR: 351. ((6 x 5) + 9) x 9 (10)
Score: 93–40 (max 112)

Not the easiest numbers game, but if you avoid the 100 and remember your 39 times table, you're quids in. ;) :) :D

Round 15: A L I G N V I C E

Sue buzzes on 19.25 seconds to say VIGILANCE which is correct.
Final Score: 93–50 (max 122)

Some nice relief for Sue, who solves the conundrum to deny Danny a century, but Danny is 3/3 and will be going for half-octochampdom tomorrow. :D :D :D
