Round 1: S Q N C E I A S N

David: INSANE (6)
Sara: SCAN (4)
DC: CANINES (7)
OT: INCASES (7) NANCIES (7)
Score: 6–0 (max 7)

David takes an early lead but DC go one better than him.

Round 2: M S B O I E T W D

David: BESTOW (6)
Sara: BODIES (6)
DC: MODISTE (7)
Score: 12–6 (max 14)

Sixes from the contestants, but DC are on top again with another seven, this one darrenic.

Round 3: 100, 6, 7, 6, 2, 3. Target: 246.

David: -
Sara: 246. 2×100+6x6+7+3 (10)
Score: 12–16 (max 24)

Sara takes the lead with a decent numbers solve.

Teatime teaser: APEICONS -> CANOPIES

Round 4: F S R T O U A R O

David: TOURS (5)
Sara: FROST (5)
OT: ORATORS (7)
Score: 17–21 (max 31)

The max is seven again and as before, the contestants don't get it. But, unlike before, DC don't either. Five apiece here.

Round 5: Z P T G E A O T S

David: TOPAZES (7)
Sara: POTAGES (7)
DC: POTTAGES (8)
OT: GATEPOST (8)
Score: 24–28 (max 39)

Unlucky for Sara as she could have added another T into her word to make it one longer (I made the same mistake with WAG(G)ON while on the show :? ). It's a nice word from David but still not a maximum, so this round is tied.

Round 6: 75, 7, 6, 5, 1, 9. Target: 640.

David: 640. (75-(6+5))x(9+1) (10)
Sara: -
Score: 34–28 (max 49)

David replies to Sara's solve in the first numbers round with one of his own. He now has the lead again.

Round 7: J P F E A I H W R

David: WAFER (5)
Sara: whifer
DC: HARPIE (6)
OT: WHARFIE (7)
Score: 39–28 (max 56)

Sara's word isn't a word  so David extends his lead here.

Round 8: V T E O A P N R E

David: OPERANT (7)
Sara: PARENT (6)
DC: RENOVATE (8)
Score: 46–28 (max 64)

Six from Sara, seven from David, eight from DC.

Round 9: 100, 6, 4, 4, 3, 8. Target: 985.

David: 985. (4+6)x10-(8+3+4) (10)
Sara: 979.
Score: 56–28 (max 74)

Another numbers solve from David sees him on double the points of his challenger.

Teatime teaser: SAMSATIN -> MANTISSA

Round 10: S N X U I A L T L

David: SULTAN (6)
Sara: SLAIN (5)
DC: INSTALL (7)
Score: 62–28 (max 81)

And the lead keeps growing.

Round 11: D R N O I E M R U

David: ROUNDER (7)
Sara: DRONE (5)
OT: MOURNED (7) MOURNER (7) MINORED (7) NURDIER (7)
Score: 69–28 (max 88)

It's a first letters max of the day for the contestants as David looks like he's winning this game comfortably.

Round 12: K N G I E A D S M

David: demasking
Sara: kneading
DC: MASKING (7) ENIGMAS (7)
OT: GAMINES (7) MAIDENS (7) MAKINGS (7) MEDIANS (7) MEDINAS (7) SEAMING (7) SIDEMAN (7) SINKAGE (7) SMIDGEN (7)
Score: 69–28 (max 95)

Very unlucky from David, I'd have gone for that too. Fortunately for him though, Sara used a phantom letter so his mistake goes unpunished. He has now definitely won the game.

Round 13: G D C E O I R Y D

David: DODGIER (7)
Sara: DICEY (5)
OT: ERGODIC (7)
Score: 76–28 (max 102)

A second letters max from David asserts his dominance today.

Round 14: 50, 75, 6, 3, 7, 2. Target: 943.

David: 953. (7+6)x75-50/2+3 (5)
Sara: -
RR: 943. 6x2x75+50-7 (10)
Score: 81–28 (max 112)

And it's more points for David, despite the slightly questionable last step there :?

Round 15: R I D E O N L O G

Sara buzzes on 8 seconds to say ONGLIDER which is incorrect.
David does not buzz.
The answer was GONDOLIER.
Final Score: 81–28 (max 122)

It's a tough conundrum and neither contestant can provide the correct answer. So David is now on six wins, and while his points-per-game average doesn't quite compare to our two octochamps so far this series, he could well join them at the top of the seeding list. Join James to see how he gets on in game number seven.

Statistics
Raw score: David 81 - Sara 53
Maximums: David 4 - Sara 1
