Round 1: H O A N E W R S U

David: WHORES (6)
Lynne: SHOWER (6)
DC: WAREHOU (7)
OT: HOARSEN (7) RESHOWN (7) SENHORA (7) UNHORSE (7)
Score: 6–6 (max 7)

A SHOWERful of WHORES. Hmmm, would I prefer that, or a bucket of ice water :?: :?: :P :P

Round 2: D T N E A O F T M

David: FATTEN (6)
Lynne: FOMENT (6)
DC: NOTATED (7)
OT: TOMENTA (7)
Score: 12–12 (max 14)

Time to FATTEN and FOMENT now. Well NOTATED by DC that time. ;)

A TOMENTUM (plural TOMENTA) is a layer of matted woolly down on the surface of a plant.

Round 3: 25, 9, 6, 4, 8, 5. Target: 983.

David: 981. (5 x 8 x 25) - (4 + 6 + 9) (7)
Lynne: 984. Mistake in working.
RR: 983. (((25 x 4) + 8) x 9) + 6 + 5 (10)
Score: 19–12 (max 24)

Well, basic subtraction lets Lynne down, which allows David to take the first lead of the day.

Teatime teaser: ROMANHAT -> MARATHON

Round 4: R D Y I U E R P R

David: RIPER (5)
Lynne: PERRY (5)
DC: PURRED (6) PRUDERY (7)
Score: 24–17 (max 31)

That was a bit of a rrrrrrrrrrrrrrough round with all those R's in there, although every word got in the studio did use 2 of them each time, including the interesting darrenic 7 of PRUDERY...........  ;)

Round 5: N A E A T F S L T

David: TALENTS (7)
Lynne: FLATTENS (8)
DC: FATTENS (7)
OT: ATLANTES (8)
Score: 24–25 (max 39)

Lynne FLATTENS herself out to take the lead from David with her impressive 8.

Round 6: 50, 4, 2, 1, 5, 5. Target: 433.

David: 433. Mistake in working.
Lynne: 425. (4 x 2 x 50) + (5 x 5) (5)
RR: 433. (2 x 4 x (50 + 1)) + (5 x 5) (10)
Score: 24–30 (max 49)

Oh dear, now it's David's turn to mess up his numbers, but Lynne can only increase her lead by 5, when a tiny alteration would've got her the full 10 (which also happened to be the method that David was trying to attempt..........  :( ).

Martin talks about the SAD FART principle when returning items.

Round 7: S C I E O P T D S

David: PISTES (6)
Lynne: OPTICS (6)
DC: DEPOSITS (8)
OT: DESPOTIC (8) TOPSIDES (8)
Score: 30–36 (max 57)

While David's on the slopes, and Lynne's at the bar, Martin Lewis decides to bring up the money with his DEPOSITS. :P

Round 8: P J S U E O N R E

David: REPOSE (6)
Lynne: PREENS (6)
DC: PURSE (5) OPENERS (7)
OT: REOPENS (7) UNROPES (7)
Score: 36–42 (max 64)

Another pair of 6's, and with the gap still at 6 points, this game is still anybody's.............

Round 9: 25, 100, 50, 7, 2, 7. Target: 408.

David: 407. (((2 x 50) / 25) x 100) + 7 (7)
Lynne: 407. (7 x 50) + (2 x 25) + 7 (7)
RR: 408. ((7 / 7) + 50) x (100 / 25) x 2 (10)
Score: 43–49 (max 74)

Another tie, and yet another numbers for Rach to solve. (I hope she's getting paid overtime :!:  :P )

Teatime teaser: NOLABELS -> BONSELLA

Round 10: N M T A E I B D U

David: AMBIENT (7)
Lynne: unbaited
DC: INMATE (6)
OT: BITUMEN (7) MEDIANT (7) MINUTED (7) UNTAMED (7)
Score: 50–49 (max 81)

Well, the tables turn again, as David takes the lead, thanks to Lynne's misplaced gamble with unbaited. It also happens to be David's first max of the day. :o

Round 11: S R E A O G M D E

David: goaders
Lynne: MEAGRE (6)
OT: MEGADOSE (8) ORGASMED (8)
Score: 50–55 (max 89)

But, now it's David's turn to go wrong, although it was a tad harsh, I must say, since goaders certainly sounds better than some others guesses in the recent past.

NOTE: Clearly ORGASMED was found by DC, but presumably they didn't to be seen spotting ORGASMED 2 days on the spin, so a poor edit was done instead. :P

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of some words that were introduced in World War I, of which this is the 100th anniversary this year.

Round 12: N R D I U E L N A

David: UNDERLAIN (18)
Lynne: LAUNDER (7)
Score: 68–55 (max 107)

WOW :!: WOW :!: :!: WOW :!: :!: :!: Did anyone see that 9 coming :?: :?: :?: I certainly didn't (partly cos I didn't get it....... :P  ) David has now all of a sudden got himself a lead of 13 points, which at this stage is always helpful. :)

Round 13: R V E U O S C Q N

David: COVERS (6)
Lynne: UNCOVERS (8)
DC: CONQUERS (8)
Score: 68–63 (max 115)

But not if you make a basic error like that :!: :!: Lynne gets a lucky chance to salvage the game, but what numbers will she try :?: :?:

Round 14: 50, 75, 1, 10, 6, 8. Target: 158.

David: 159. ((8 - 6) x 75) + 10 - 1 (7)
Lynne: 160.
RR: 158. ((75 - 50) x 6) + 8 (10)
Score: 75–63 (max 125)

Well, that 2 large didn't work out well for Lynne, as David makes amends for the last round to seal the deal.

Round 15: I D I O T R A N T

No one buzzes. The answer was TRADITION.
Final Score: 75–63 (max 135)

Which is just as well, since no-one got the conundrum. But, David hangs on for his 2nd win, but like yesterday, once bit of magic somehow managed to get him through. Yesterday, it was solving CORMORANT (which in its previous 2 appearances as a conundrum were in series quarter-finals), and today it was getting UNDERLAIN from absolutely nowhere :!: :!:

He might need a bit more luck tomorrow, as his opponent is Apterite Callum Pickering. Join me tomorrow to see how that one gets on.

Till then, bye for now. ;) :) :D  8-)
