Round 1: O E A L R S O N G

Jason: LONGER (6)
Ben: gnarles
OT: ARENOSOL (8)
Score: 6–0 (max 8)

Jason's word may not be longer than Ben's but it is more valid, so he takes the points here. There is an excellent new-to-ODO darrenic eight lurking here though: ARENOSOL.

Round 2: P M Z A E I L O T

Jason: POLITE (6)
Ben: PILOT (5)
DC: ATOMIZE (7)
OT: OPTIMAL (7)
Score: 12–0 (max 15)

Jason doubles his lead here with another six, while DC have a classic seven.

Round 3: 25, 100, 8, 6, 3, 7. Target: 200.

Jason: 200. 25x8 (10)
Ben: 200. 25x8 (10)
Score: 22–10 (max 25)

Moving on.

Teatime teaser: BERYLRUM -> MULBERRY

Round 4: Q U E R O G T E C

Jason: CROQUET (7)
Ben: ROGUE (5)
DC: TORQUE (6)
OT: CORTEGE (7)
Score: 29–10 (max 32)

A very nice seven from Jason.

Round 5: N T A O E L G E R

Jason: ELONGATE (8)
Ben: GLOATER (7)
Score: 37–10 (max 40)

And now a darrenic eight as he ELONGATEs his lead.

Round 6: 75, 100, 9, 10, 4, 3. Target: 129.

Jason: 130. 3x10+100 (7)
Ben: 127.
RR: 129. 3x4x10+9 (10)
Score: 44–10 (max 50)

Both contestants struggle a bit on these numbers but Jason is one closer so he takes the points to add to his very healthy lead.

Round 7: A I E D M V P O J

Jason: POMADE (6)
Ben: PAVED (5)
DC: VAMPED (6)
Score: 50–10 (max 56)

Jason's score is now five times that of his opponent as he continues to win every letters round.

Round 8: E I S A D X H O S

Jason: HOAXES (6)
Ben: DASHES (6)
DC: OXIDASES (8)
Score: 56–16 (max 64)

Ben takes points from a letters round for the first time today, but Jason gets the points too so that forty point lead is going nowhere. DC get the very nice darrenic eight though.

Round 9: 100, 25, 6, 5, 3, 4. Target: 296.

Jason: 296. 100x3-4 (10)
Ben: 296. 100x3-4 (10)
Score: 66–26 (max 74)

Another easy numbers and Ben will be glad for the points.

Teatime teaser: BEANLEAF -> FLEABANE

Round 10: N R D I E T R U O

Jason: ROUTINED (8)
Ben: ROUNDER (7)
DC: INTRUDER (8) OUTRIDER (8)
Score: 74–26 (max 82)

Another good eight from Jason surely puts this game beyond any doubt.

Round 11: I U O N V D I E S

Jason: VISIONED (8)
Ben: VOIDS (5)
Score: 82–26 (max 90)

And another. And this one's a darren too; Jason's on fire here today.

Round 12: B I O A P T F N E

Jason: OPIATE (6)
Ben: BATON (5)
DC: OBTAIN (6)
OT: BOATIE (6) BINATE (6) PINETA (6) POINTE (6)
Score: 88–26 (max 96)

A few sixes to go for here and Jason beats his opponent by getting one of them. Interestingly, one of the sixes available is new to ODO. BINATE is a botanical term meaning composed of two equal parts.

Round 13: S R G O E A N W O

Jason: WAGONERS (8)
Ben: SARONG (6)
Score: 96–26 (max 104)

Outstanding performance from Jason as he unleashes yet another darrenic eight. His lead now stands at an incredible seventy points.

Round 14: 75, 100, 3, 6, 9, 1. Target: 103.

Jason: 103. 100+3 (10)
Ben: 103. 100+3 (10)
Score: 106–36 (max 114)

Jason's performance today is definitely that of a finalist, so he will be glad of another easy numbers game to add to his potentially crucial points total. Ben won't mind the opportunity of grabbing a few points either :)

Round 15: D E L S B O S O M

Jason buzzes on 2 seconds to say BLOSSOMED which is correct.
Final Score: 116–36 (max 124)

Jason was impressive enough yesterday, but today his game has BLOSSOMED into something really quite formidable. There's been a bit of a switcharoo in the recap schedule this week, so join Andy to see how Jason gets on in game 3.

Statistics
Raw score: Jason 116 - Ben 75
