Round 1: D S M R T O E A E

Samir: MODERATES (18)
Andy: MODERATES (18)
DC: MASTERED (8)
Score: 18–18 (max 18)

NOW THAT'S A PERFECT START :!: :!: 8-) 8-)

Round 2: I O U P D M T R A

Samir: AUDITOR (7)
Andy: PODIUM (6)
DC: PROTIUM (7)
OT: PAROTID (7)
Score: 25–18 (max 25)

Samir's late 7 gives him the first advantage of this semi-final.

Round 3: 50, 5, 9, 4, 6, 8. Target: 154.

Samir: 154. ((9 - 6) x 50) + 4 (10)
Andy: 154. ((8 - 5) x 50) + 4 (10)
Score: 35–28 (max 35)

Not too taxing for our octochamp semi-finalists. :)

Teatime teaser: STARABLE -> ARBALEST

Round 4: E O E Z T C B S L

Samir: BOLETES (7)
Andy: CLOSET (6)
Score: 42–28 (max 42)

Samir doubles his advantage with the darrenic 7 here. :D

Round 5: Y P G T M U I E O

Samir: GUIMPE (6)
Andy: MOIETY (6)
OT: IMPUTE (6) UPTIME (6)
Score: 48–34 (max 48)

Not many 6's here, but it's still perfection o'clock for Samir, as Andy chooses his first numbers of the day..............

Round 6: 75, 25, 4, 8, 10, 8. Target: 981.

Samir: 984.
Andy: 980. ((75 + 25) x 10) - (8 + 8 + 4) (7)
OT: 981. ((25 + 8) x 8 x 4) - 75 (10)
Score: 48–41 (max 58)

Me and my big mouth, eh :?: :P Andy halves the deficit with his 1 away, but not even darling Rach can solve this one............ :(

Jon does a 70's theme for his stint, as Countdown is about to end its 70th series, so he does a brilliant impression of the Philip Glenister's politically incorrect character, DCI Gene Hunt from Life on Mars.

Round 7: S N G J S U O E I

Samir: JINGOES (7)
Andy: SINGES (6)
DC: GUISES (6)
OT: IGNEOUS (7) JESSING (7) SOUSING (7)
Score: 55–41 (max 65)

Samir makes up immediately with a very nice 7.

JESSING is the act of putting a JESS (a short strap fastened around the leg of a hawk and attached to the leash) on a hawk.

Round 8: A E I K T N F S X

Samir: FINEST (6)
Andy: INTAKES (7)
DC: FIXATES (7)
OT: KENTIAS (7)
Score: 55–48 (max 72)

But, Andy halves the deficit once again. This game is very much wide open still :!: :!: :!: 8-) 8-) 8-)

Round 9: 50, 10, 6, 8, 5, 4. Target: 322.

Samir: 322. (50 x 6) + (8 x 4) - 10 (10)
Andy: 322. ((50 + 4) x 6) + 8 - 10 (10)
Score: 65–58 (max 82)

Two similar way, two lots of 10 points. Onwards we go

Teatime teaser: BLESSSEA -> BASELESS

Round 10: R L H D U A E L N

Samir: LAUNDER (7)
Andy: HANDLER (7)
OT: ALLURED (7) LANDLER (7) LURDANE (7) UNHEARD (7)
Score: 72–65 (max 89)

Just half a dozen 7's here, and no more than that............

A LÄNDLER is an Austrian and southern German folk dance in moderately slow triple meter, antecedent to the waltz.

Round 11: S V R G R I O E D

Samir: DRIVERS (7)
Andy: GIRDERS (7)
DC: GROVES (6) DROVERS (7)
OT: DEVISOR (7) DEVOIRS (7) VISORED (7)
Score: 79–72 (max 96)

Yet again, just half a dozen 7's here. Surely not a dull end to this match............. :?

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of some hybrid animals, such as the "zonkey". :P

Round 12: O I A O P R W I M

Samir: RAMP (4)
Andy: IMPAIR (6)
Score: 79–78 (max 102)

Ooooooooooh, Andy gets the darrenic 6, and the gap goes down to 1 point now, with one round of each to go...............

Round 13: S H B R T A E O I

Samir: BATHERS (7)
Andy: HOARIEST (8)
Score: 79–86 (max 110)

And yet another darren has turned the tide of this match completely :!: :!: :!: What will Andy's next move be, I wonder............ :?: :?: :? :?

Round 14: 7, 10, 10, 1, 3, 6. Target: 348.

Samir: 347.
Andy: 348. ((10 x 7) - 10 - (3 - 1)) x 6 (10)
Score: 79–96 (max 120)

A 6 small is called for, and the upset has happened :!: :!:   :o :o (OK, maybe it's not that big a shock, as it's #3 v #2, but I'm not sure how many people saw that coming............  )

Round 15: T U M I A C H E R

No one buzzes. The answer was RHEUMATIC.
Final Score: 79–96 (max 130)

But, Andy can't make it a century, as neither contestant can solve the conundrum, meaning that once again, it's left to Tracey Mills in the audience to solve it. 8-)

So, Samir's journey has come to an end, and it's been quite a journey for a man who doesn't even have English as his first language :!: :!: :!:    :o :o :o But, he has certainly done himself, and reaching the semi-final is no bad achievement. 8-) 8-) 8-)

But now, we must move onto the main focus of tomorrow, the SERIES 70 GRAND FINAL :!: :!: 8-) 8-)  :geek: :geek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

And it's going to be between the #1 seed, MARK "THE BRISTOL BOMBARDIER" MURRAY

and the #3 seed, ANDY "THE HENDON HITMAN" NAYLOR.

Interestingly, a battle between 2 players, who both lost their first appearances on the show over a decade ago, so defo worth the comeback for them both. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Anthony will be around tomorrow for all the final information of Series 70. ;) :) :D

I'll be back next Wednesday, when Series 71 will be underway, so till then, have a great weekend, and bye for now. ;) :) :D  8-) :geek: :ugeek:
