Round 1: R U Y O I D S S E

Roy: DOSSIER (7)
Ian: SOURED (6)
DC: DOSSER (6) DESIROUS (8)
Score: 7–0 (max 8)

A good start from Roy, gaining a seven point lead, but DC go one further with a nice call back to Nick's funny opening.

Round 2: G S U E D O R I D

Roy: DODGIER (7)
Ian: DODGIER (7)
DC: GUIDERS (7)
OT: DODGERS (7) DROGUES (7) DRUDGES (7) GOURDES (7) GROUSED (7) RUDDIES (7)
Score: 14–7 (max 15)

A very flat round here and both contestants take advantage.

Round 3: 100, 75, 8, 2, 10, 6. Target: 864.

Roy: 865. 8x100+75-10 (7)
Ian: 865. 8x100+75-10 (7)
RR: 864. (100+8)x(2+6) (10)
Score: 21–14 (max 25)

The contestants equal each other here, but they are both one away from the exact target, which Rachel has found.

Teatime teaser: HITSRULE -> LUTHIERS

Round 4: N S D E U E R N I

Roy: ENDURES (7)
Ian: UNDIES (6)
DC: INSURED (7) DUNNIES (7) SUNNIER (7) DENIERS (7)
OT: DINNERS (7) ENSURED (7) INURNED (7) NEREIDS (7) NERINES (7) RESIDUE (7) RESINED (7) UNDINES (7) UNRISEN (7) UREIDES (7)
Score: 28–14 (max 32)

Another flat round of sevens, but this time only Roy takes the points, doubling his lead.

Round 5: T U I O D R E M L

Roy: OUTRIDE (7)
Ian: loutier
DC: MODULE (6) REMOULD (7) MOULDIER (8)
Score: 35–14 (max 40)

Ian is unlucky here as Roy yet again takes seven points from a letters round. DC have the darrenic eight, however.

Round 6: 75, 6, 7, 9, 7, 1. Target: 902.

Roy: -
Ian: 901. (9-7)x6x75+1 (7)
RR: 902. (6+7-1)x75+(9-7) (10)
Score: 35–21 (max 50)

It looks like this game is going to be scored in multiples of seven, as Ian pulls seven points back with one away on the numbers. Rachel has the exact solution again.

Round 7: E A I G T T S C W

Roy: CATTIES (7)
Ian: STAGE (5)
OT: CAGIEST (7) STATICE (7)
Score: 42–21 (max 57)

Another seven-letter word from Roy makes his score double that of his opponent's.

Round 8: P L T E O E C I T

Roy: POLITE (6)
Ian: POLICE (6)
DC: POETIC (6)
OT: PETIOLE (7) PICOTEE (7)
Score: 48–27 (max 64)

After seven rounds of our contestants scoring seven points or nothing, they both get six points here. There were two sevens lurking there though: PETIOLE and PICOTEE. I like rounds that have those two words as the available maximums.

Round 9: 100, 75, 6, 2, 4, 8. Target: 843.

Roy: 844. (100+6)x8-4 (7)
Ian: -
RR: 843. (100-4)x8+75 (10)
Score: 55–27 (max 74)

We're back onto the seven-point trend as Roy takes points for being one away on the numbers. Rachel is yet to be beaten though, as she has the exact solution once more.

Teatime teaser: CAMEINCH -> MECHANIC

Round 10: M Q T A E I P A V

Roy: AVIATE (6)
Ian: AVIATE (6)
Score: 61–33 (max 80)

Sixes again from the contestants but this time they both get the same word, and it's a darren! Good stuff.

Round 11: S E A O E N P N F

Roy: OPENS (5)
Ian: OPENS (5)
DC: PAEONS (6)
OT: PEONES (6)
Score: 66–38 (max 86)

Fives this time, while DC have one of the two sixes. A PAEON, as Susie says, is a unit of measurement. A PAEAN (which wasn't available in this round), as Nick says, is a song of praise. A PEON, meanwhile, is a labourer or worker in Latin America. That was available in this round, as was its plural - PEONES - which was the other six.

Round 12: L T K O A E N S I

Roy: LANKIEST (8)
Ian: LESION (6)
DC: INTAKES (7) TOENAILS (8)
Score: 74–38 (max 94)

A good spot from Roy, as Susie confesses that DC didn't spot it. They did get the other eight though.

Round 13: E O I G H R O J P

Roy: GROPE (5)
Ian: HOOPER (6)
OT: GOOPIER (7)
Score: 74–44 (max 101)

Ian needed a nine here to have any chance of winning the game, but unfortunately one didn't come up. He does win the round however, playing a six to his opponent's five. The darrenic seven that all in the studio missed was GOOPIER.

Round 14: 50, 9, 7, 7, 8, 5. Target: 690.

Roy: 689. Mistake in working.
Ian: 691. (7+7)x50-9 (7)
RR: 690. (7+8)x(50+5-9) (10)
Score: 74–51 (max 111)

Ian has 691, and so does Roy, except he mistakenly declares 689 instead. Bad luck there, as for the fourth time today the numbers round yields 7 points to the contestants, while Rachel has the exact solution.

Round 15: F R E E B A S I C

Roy buzzes on 25.5 seconds to say BRIEFCASE which is correct.
Final Score: 84–51 (max 121)

Roy buzzes in fairly late, but is confident with his answer. And so he should, as it is correct :)

So that's two wins for Roy now. There are six heat games left in this series before we move on to the finals, so there is just enough time for him to reach octochampdom, if he has what it takes. Or, for the less ambitious, he requires six wins overall with a points total in excess of 580 to reach those impending finals. It seems like a long shot, but can he draw inspiration from his favoured Manchester City team and take the glory? Join James tomorrow to see him take the next step.

Statistics
Raw score: Roy 89 - Ian 76
Maximums: Roy 6 - Ian 2
