Round 1: N S D A I E G T S

C1: seatings
C2: SEATING (7)
DC: STEADINGS (18)
Score: 0–7 (max 18)

Well, what a start we could have had with a 9 missed by all. The challenger gets off to a flyer as our champion has 'seatings' disallowed. The SEATING singular wins it for Graeme.

Round 2: R O E A B T P M X

C1: PROBATE (7)
C2: TAMPER (6)
DC: BOATER (6)
OT: BROMATE (7)
Score: 7–7 (max 25)

Martin is back level as he gets PROBATE.

Round 3: 8, 1, 8, 3, 2, 75. Target: 573.

C1: 573. Mistake in working.
C2: 581. (8 x 75) - (2x8) -3 (5)
RR: 573. (75-3) x 8 -2-1 (10)
Score: 7–12 (max 35)

A mistake by Martin hands Graeme 5 points for getting 8 away, as he subtracted a used 3 instead of the 2 and the 1.

Teatime teaser: IMPSPLAY -> MISAPPLY

Round 4: S O E U M Q R R L

C1: ROUSER (6)
C2: MORSEL (6)
DC: SORREL (6)
OT: LEMURS (6) LOUSER (6) MORELS (6) MOSQUE (6) MOUSER (6) MURRES (6) ORMERS (6) ROMERS (6) RULERS (6) SOURER (6)
Score: 13–18 (max 41)

Sixes all round here. ROUSER and MORSEL see both players score 6 points.

Round 5: G N E I T S R A P

C1: PARTINGS (8)
C2: SPEARING (8)
DC: RANGIEST (8) TRAPESING (18)
Score: 21–26 (max 59)

PARTINGS and SPEARING for our chaps, but it is DC who are TRAPESING a 9 into the game.

Round 6: 6, 3, 2, 1, 25, 100. Target: 537.

C1: 531. Mistake in working.
C2: 531. (6-1) x 100 + 25 + (3x2) (5)
RR: 537. (100+2) x 6 - (3x25) (10)
Score: 21–31 (max 69)

A second numbers game, and a second successive mistake by Martin, as Graeme finds himself 5 points better off by getting just 6 away.

Jon Culshaw takes audience requests for impersonations.

Round 7: N R D U O I E S R

C1: ROUNDERS (8)
C2: ROUNDERS (8)
DC: INSURED (7)
OT: INDORSER (8)
Score: 29–39 (max 77)

Fancy a game of ROUNDERS? This round did as both players get 8 points.

Round 8: M U O E D T Y H G

C1: THYME (5)
C2: MOUTHED (7)
DC: DOUGHTY (7)
OT: TOUGHED (7)
Score: 29–46 (max 84)

A spicy word by Martin, but THYME waits for no man as Graeme MOUTHED his word and got 7 points.

Round 9: 7, 1, 4, 5, 2, 50. Target: 466.

C1: 465.
C2: 466. (50-4) x (5x2) + (7-1) (10)
Score: 29–56 (max 94)

And Graeme goes a further 10 ahead as Martin misses the target by 1.

Teatime teaser: SIDATEAT -> SATIATED

Round 10: N A E I D P Z T T

C1: PAINTED (7)
C2: PAINTED (7)
DC: TAINTED (7)
OT: PATIENT (7)
Score: 36–63 (max 101)

This round PAINTED a picture of the game as both players again draw level.

Round 11: L C H V O A R E P

C1: CLOVER (6)
C2: halver
DC: CHOLERA (7) OVERLAP (7)
OT: CHORALE (7) EPOCHAL (7) POACHER (7)
Score: 42–63 (max 108)

And Martin is back in it, as Graeme gets 'halver' disallowed. The lucky CLOVER gets him 6 points.

Susie dent talks about the origin of a 'wake' at a funeral.

Round 12: T I A O N V R F I

C1: RATION (6)
C2: FAINT (5)
DC: TRIVIA (6)
OT: FINITO (6) FORINT (6) VIRINO (6) VIRION (6)
Score: 48–63 (max 114)

RATIONal thinking from Martin. I think Graeme will be feeling a bit FAINT by now. Six more points to the champion.

Round 13: S S L E O D G A N

C1: GLASSED (7)
C2: DANGLES (7)
DC: DONGLES (7) SLOGANS (7) GLADNESS (8)
Score: 55–70 (max 122)

Sevens apiece with GLASSED and DANGLES.

Round 14: 5, 2, 2, 6, 75, 100. Target: 324.

C1: 324. (75+6) x (2+2) (10)
C2: 325.
Score: 65–70 (max 132)

It's a crucial conundrum as Martin gets 10 back with the numbers. Graeme could only get to one away, so Martin takes the points.

Round 15: F L I P M E D I A

C2 buzzes on 14 seconds to say AMPLIFIED which is correct.
Final Score: 65–80 (max 142)

Graeme correctly buzzed in after 14 seconds to win the game. So our champion Martin Hamill only lasted the one day. Will Graeme Cheek go further? That remains to be seen. Join Andy McGurn on Monday to see the next chapter in the Countdown adventure. For now though, once again thank you very much for reading and goodbye. :)
