Round 1: O A I L R N G T S

C1: ORGANIST (8)
C2: STARLING (8)
DC: ROASTING (8)
OT: ANTILOGS (8) TRIGONAL (8)
Score: 8–8 (max 8)

A good start by our contestants with an 8 apiece. :)

ANTILOG is another word an ANTILOGARITHM, the number of which a given number is the logarithm.

Round 2: R M E S D U M R I

C1: DRUMMERS (8)
C2: DRUMMERS (8)
DC: MURDERS (7) DIMMERS (7)
Score: 16–16 (max 16)

For a band player, this round was very good for Richard, but let's see if he's as good with his supposed speciality................

Round 3: 5, 6, 8, 7, 4, 2. Target: 623.

C1: 623. (((8 + 4 + 2) x 6) + 5) x 7 (10)
C2: 624.
Score: 26–16 (max 26)

Well, he gets one away, but against the king of 6 small, that's just not gonna hack it, I'm afraid and it's the first lead to Jonathan today. :)

Teatime teaser: CONSFUEL -> FLOUNCES

Round 4: M L A P R E Z R O

C1: AMPLER (6)
C2: MAPLE (5)
DC: PREMOLAR (8)
Score: 32–16 (max 34)

Now Jonathan has an AMPLER lead, while DC chew on their darrenic 8. 8-)

Round 5: I U E T D C S D R

C1: CRUDDIEST (18)
C2: RUDDIEST (8)
DC: CRUDITES (8)
Score: 50–16 (max 52)

A risk pays off for Jonathan, while Richard rues what might've been..............

Round 6: 4, 2, 5, 3, 8, 1. Target: 753.

C1: 753. Mistake in working.
C2: 750. (4 + 1) x 5 x 3 x (8 + 2) (7)
Score: 50–23 (max 59)

Well, it's definitely a big risk for Richard going for 6 small after the last numbers game, but his kamikaze tactics have reaped their rewards, as Jonathan thinks he has the target, but then realises he hasn't, letting Richard go for 3 away, which happens to be perfection. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Pam reads the title poem from her new book, "You Made Me Late Again" :D

Round 7: I O A T P S J N U

C1: JOINTS (6)
C2: PISTON (6)
DC: UTOPIANS (8)
OT: OPUNTIAS (8)
Score: 56–29 (max 67)

A pair of 6's from the contestants, while DC find their perfect place with the brilliant 8, UTOPIANS. :D

Round 8: Y N G O N A K D E

C1: YANKED (6)
C2: YANKED (6)
DC: DONKEY (6)
OT: ANNOYED (7) ANODYNE (7)
Score: 62–35 (max 74)

A couple of good hard YANKs and a DONKEY to boot. :P  But, they might be slightly ANNOYED at missing the 7 here.............

ANODYNE is a medicine that relieves or allays pain.

Round 9: 3, 4, 7, 8, 2, 10. Target: 198.

C1: 198. ((10 x 7) - 4) x 3 (10)
C2: 198. ((8 - 3) x 4 x 10) - 2 (10)
Score: 72–45 (max 84)

Back to the 6 small ranch, but this time, it's a piece of cake for them both. 8-)

Teatime teaser: REDANGER -> GARDENER

Round 10: L X H I A F T P E

C1: FAITH (5)
C2: pilate
DC: FLEAPIT (7)
Score: 77–45 (max 91)

A bit of a bad gamble there by Richard, as "pilot", spelt "p-i-l-a-t-e", is only in the dictionary in capitalised form, letting Jonathan pull even further away.

Round 11: I A O S N T G H T

C1: TOASTING (8)
C2: TOASTING (8)
DC: TONIGHT (7) TONIGHTS (8)
Score: 85–53 (max 99)

Two lots of TOASTING, while DC debate about the use of TONIGHTS, which will probably go on and on through all the todays and tomorrows. :P

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of "stealing someone's thunder".

Round 12: S R E M B A C D I

C1: CAMBERS (7)
C2: CAMBERS (7)
DC: CARBIDES (8)
OT: ASCRIBED (8)
Score: 92–60 (max 107)

Both our contestants CAMBER along in this round, while DC go for some CARBIDES for 8.

Round 13: E O E R S H D L I

C1: RELISHED (8)
C2: HEROISED (8)
Score: 100–68 (max 115)

Richard does what DC didn't quite do yesterday and sticks the D onto HEROISE for an 8, but Jonathan has clearly RELISHED today's game, as he has won it, and got a century to boot. 8-)

Round 14: 7, 3, 9, 8, 8, 6. Target: 160.

C1: 160. (7 x 3 x 8) - 8 (10)
C2: 159.
Score: 110–68 (max 125)

Well, this is surely a first, an episode with 4 six small games. 8-) 8-)

But, while missing the first 6 small is certainly forgiveable, a maths teacher missing this numbers game is quite shocking :!: :!:   :o :o

Round 15: T A N G Y S I D E

C1 buzzes on 6.75 seconds to say STEADYING which is correct.
Final Score: 120–68 (max 135)

And keeping calm and composed, Jonathan gets the conundrum after a few seconds to finish with an impressive score of 120. 8-)

So, Jonathan has made it to 6 wins, and by winning tomorrow's game, he'll guarantee his place in the finals in 2 weeks time. Join Anthony to see if he can do just that.

I'll be back next Wednesday, when Jonathan will have gone come what may, and we might even have our finalists finalised then as well............ 8-) 8-) 8-)

So, have a good weekend everybody, and see you soon. Bye bye. ;) :) :D (And to all our Americans, happy Thanksgiving. 8-) 8-) 8-) )
