Queen's Diamond Jubilee
Does anyone care about this? No? Good. Does anyone think we should even have a monarch? No? Good. [/thread]

Re: Queen's Diamond Jubilee
The important issue is why the Bank Holiday that is usually the last Monday in May was put back a week, so that we could have another Bank Holiday that is 60 years and 4 months after the King died, and almost exactly 59 years since the Coronation. And will we ever again have a monarch less than 50 years old?

I did wonder what was so special about this weekend as well.David Williams wrote:The important issue is why the Bank Holiday that is usually the last Monday in May was put back a week, so that we could have another Bank Holiday that is 60 years and 4 months after the King died, and almost exactly 59 years since the Coronation. Speaking of the King, he spent all that time learning how to speak so that he could cut the ribbon for World War 2 in 1939, and he was dead inside 13 years.

So another health scare for Prince Phil[l?]ip. I think it will be like the Queen Mother again. Dead, not dead, dead! No, false alarm, sorry.
Will the Queen go on the pull again afterwards, assuming she outlasts him?

While we're here, if the Queen has an "official" birthday, will she have an official deathday as well? Feasibly she could carry on reigning after she's died if her official deathday isn't for a while later. Alternatively her official deathday might come first, which would make sense because then she could be at her own funeral and it could be a joyous occasion just like the great Jubilee we've just had.

Presumably it will depend on what the weather is like on the day she dies.Gavin Chipper wrote:While we're here, if the Queen has an "official" birthday, will she have an official deathday as well?
