24 Hour Scrabble World Record Attempt (in aid of Polio Plus)

Post by Craig Beevers »

I'm doing a 24 hour Scrabble world record attempt this weekend. It will take place this Saturday starting at 10am (GMT+1) up in Paisley, Scotland. The record is to score as many points between us (myself and Ray Tate) in 24 hours of playing Scrabble, the current record is 162,171 - so it's sort of a high-score Scrabble playing style.

It's being organised by the Rotary Club of Paisley in aid of the Polio Plus charity. There will be something online set up later if you feel like donating. The whole 24 hours will be streamed online. There's also a Facebook Page (you don't have to be registered with Facebook to view it) with the latest news, discussion etc.

QuipuTV Live - live streaming video powered by Livestream

Feel free to have a watch out of curiosity. I'll be the one without the beard.

As far as I understand, a word stands as valid unless it's challenged, so just put down the best-scoring selection out each time regardless of whether it's a word and never challenge each other. Glad to be of help.

I suspect that playing UUUJHRE, QCOSOIXC and the like would be against the spirit of things really...

What are your chances of succeeding?

I guess you'd need to play about 200 games, which is about a game every 7 minutes. So it's quite easy to do on ISC but with picking tiles and stuff probably tougher?

Good luck!

Maybe but presumably they'd have no hesitation in offering a risky word that has a genuine chance of being there. I don't think it would be challenged would it?
