Movie Villains

Post by Mark James »

Who is everyone's favourite movie villain? I was just watching Cliffhanger tonight and John Lithgow as Eric Qualen is amazing in it. I especially loved when one of his henchmen gets shot and Qualen says he needs to get to a hospital, fast and then throws him out of the plane. Quality stuff. Then there's Vernon Wells as Bennet in Commando who's great too and obviously Alan Rickman in Die Hard and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.

You're going to go some to beat the Joker for pure awesome villainy (Nicholson or Ledger, either's good).

In no particular orderKeyser Soze, Poison Ivy(not the Batman one), Norman Bates, Mr. Blonde and Hannibal Lecter.

P.S. Have to agree with Mark about Rickmans performance in Prince of Thieves, although the entire film was an absolute clunker, right from the very first scene, which shows Robin escaping from prison by opening a manhole cover and climbing out (in the 12th century?)

Robert Mitchum as the Preacher in Night of the Hunter. Totally, unforgettably, mesmerisingly evil.

Oh, and for camp value, Terence Stamp as General Zod in Superman 2.

What no mention of Alan Rickman's,Sherrif of Nottingham.
Robert DeNiro's portrayal of Max Cady takes some beating for pure evilness.
But I always liked George Kennedy's portrayal of 'Red' in Thunderbolt and Lightfooot (a much overlooked classic by Michael Cimino)

Zurg's villainy is a drop in the ocean compared to Hamm's alter-ego. Zurg is just a father figure who has been corrupted by society, or something. Evil Dr Porkchop is evil just for the kicks.

Lotso was also corrupted by society (neglected by his owner). Evil Dr Porkchop, on the other hand, only exists (well, not 'exists', exactly) to be evil.

Yes Ian. Totally forgot about this. He's great in The Fifth Element too and as Drexel in True Romance.

Unsurprisingly, I've gone for a Bond villain, definitely Ernst Stavro Blofeld in You Only Live Twice (that's Donald Pleasance's version of Blofeld).
