Who? :?
I suppose Google would tell me who George Burley is if I could be arsed, but I certainly would not recognise him even if he turned out to be the guy who's coming (real soon I hope) from DynoRod to unblock my bog
I dunno why I bother to read this thread, as I'm useless on celebrities, especially footballers :P
Funny isn't it? I went for Harry and George Burley of the recent Southampton managers as I thought they were the ones people would recognise in the street. Seems I was wrong!

Yeah, I think anyone with even a passing interest in football would recognise George. He's been a player and manager at international level, and at the top level of club football. There are a minority of footballers/managers who transcend even this level of 'fame' and become known to everyone.

Without wikipedia at my disposal, I would've blithely said "Yes", but apparently "No" is the correct answer.

Agreed. George Burley I would say is pretty famous. He was of course part of a nice quiz question back in the day when he was managing Ipswich and Finidi George played for Ipswich. So the question was which 3 Premiership Clubs have a player with the same surname as the manager. One of the others was Steven Gerrad/Gerrard Houllier but I can't for the life of me remember what the other was. I think we are talking about 2001-2002 roughly.

Edit: And a quick bit of Googling tells me it was Laurent Robert/Robert "Bobby" Robson.

Aye, just wanted to check. So, i'm assuming she's an actress. I may as well ask if she is in case i'm wide of the mark. If the answer is yes, has she ever won a bafta?

Wow, YES! Yes it is. That was impressive! I thought you still had a pretty big pool to pick from without narrowing it down further.

Yes, I saw the very lovely Charlie Brooks in EuroDisney

PS I'm about to go to work so you'll have to devise a clever system of narrowing it down.

As someone who doesn't follow football, this is what I have to say about George Burley. I've heard of him and I probably hear people talking about him occasionally but I wouldn't have been able to tell you what football team he managed, and I was aware of him more when he was Ipswich because he got mentioned on Look East. I would say that he's definitely not someone who "transcends" football though if that makes sense. Not really famous famous outside the world of football people.

And I'd love for Stephen Hawking to have been buying milk and cheese from a Tesco in Sheffield.
