Exam results

I thought to continue the "good luck" theme, people might want to post their exam results on this board. Some people may not have them yet, of course

Well mine are all passes, 120 credits out of 120 passed with an 82/90 in French and a pretty dismal 43/90 in British politics, 40/90 being the pass rate. The other two are 76/90 for Spanish and 60/90 for French culture and literature.

I graduated from Cambridge with a Double First, finishing 2nd in a class of 81. My much-beleaguered dissertation was in the top 8 for the year and won an "Outstanding Dissertation" prize, despite the best efforts of my supervisor to avoid reading it. Personal highlight was the final paper, and my last ever exam, which went better than expected, finishing up with 97% (a First is about 70%.) And now I can put some letters after my name, yey!

My other skills include total immodesty.

Well done to everyone else who survived exams for another year, I hope you get the grades you deserve.

Mine were a bit of a mare, as I missed the last two through illness so had to go through a nervewracking meeting to convince them to give me anything. I got an average of 77 on the 4 I did take though and an alpha for my part III essay (which is kind of like a dissertation but slightly less work involved) so overall I'm satisfied.

Congratulations everyone on their results (especially Charlie, you clever sod).

My Scottish Higher results came today and I'm feeling OK about them except for one:

Four B's for English, Maths, Classical Studies and Chemistry but I failed Drama which I am furious with myself about

Hoping to use them to do English at Uni so I'm happy with the B in English.

GCSE results day for me today and here are my results.

A* - English Language, Religious Education
A - Science, Business Studies, History and English Literature
B - Mathematics, Latin, Physical Education

Make your own judgements. But the B in maths was the stand out major disappointment for myself. But overall, I have to be satisfied compared to what others in my year group managed

I didn't think you could get a grade for P.E. though (well I didn't in my school, but if I did, it would most likely have been a 'G'

).

A* - English Language and Literature
A - IT x2, History and Statistics
B - Maths, RE, Art, German, and another IT
C - Science x2

I got an E grade in PE but I only took the thing because I was forced to

Yes, the course was split into 3 different sections, of which each was worth a GCSE. I'm certainly not complaining

So this is why results keep getting better and better, eh? When I did mine (way back when in, erm, 2002 I think) we either did full or short course IT (you did full if you were in top set for languages, for some reason), worth 1 or half a GCSE respectively, so you can appreciate why I find the idea of 3 a bit odd

Although possibly not as odd as how my school decided who did full course RS - top set in science (no, really).

We did a GNVQ in IT, which was a lot easier than GCSE IT (the people who did A-level IT at my school struggled), but was apparently worth the equivalent of 4 GCSEs, and that was reflected in the 5+ A*-Cs rate at our school. It skipped from like 70%-97% one year, and everybody wondered why..

. Shame about the E in PE though and, I too, was forced to take that subject because we are a "specialised" sports college

I was also shocked to find out that I got 200/200 in my RE exam with only a handful of the UK achieving the same fate. Perhaps a numinous force helped me to achieve that one

Congrats to both Jay and Ja Cu

Full marks in R.E. Thats excellent! I wasnt that great at the humanity subjects and just managed to scrape a B in R.E. As for the P.E. (personal embarassment) frontier we were separated/paederast into full GCSE/half GCSE and Junior Sports Leader Award. I was in the latter group, and although I enjoy sport and exercise I found it a lot more rewarding being on the instructing end of physical exertion!

Oh yeah - if you're interested -

I got B in Drama, A in IT and French, and A* in the other 7.

I was really proud of my Maths which was nearly full marks and English Lit (which is my fave subject and I convinced myself I fucked up the exam). French the only disappointment because I thought I aced the paper and got A* in mock. On reflection it could've been all A*s - didn't really work hard each lesson in IT and had a lot of catch up at the end - Drama was a stupid subject choice.

But can't complain overall and I hope I don't sound arrogant because I worked really hard for these results

Yeah I went to a specialist sports college too - where you were treated almost as bad as a guest on the Jeremy Kyle show if you didn't like Sport and PE. I kid you not. Needless to say, I was one of those people. They never were quite like that to me though - obviously far too intimidated.

I went to a performing arts school but it wasn't compulsory to do Drama. That said, the drama department was probably bigger than the english one...

. However, not as bad as the 8 year old who got an A* in GCSE Maths when I could only muster a B!

Similarly, my best mate got 7 A*'s and 3 A's yesterday and my other pal - a 2012 Olympic hopeful - got A's and B's despite training more hours than he was actually in school

. And, as a school, my year group achieved the highest ever GCSE results in the school's 83 year existence with 70 percent getting 5 A*-C grades - a 12 percent rise from last year. Not bad for a public school in... Bolton

Luckily, my school are not that snobby and pushy. I was actually pretty good at the physical aspect of PE but not much so on the theory side. I recall struggling on a 2 mark question asking,

"Name two parts where air enters the body" - After a long think, I put nose and mouth but apparently they wanted the correct scientific terms. The right answers were nasal passsage and trachea (or something near there!)

I was informed last week that I passed the level 2 literacy exam - equivalent to a GCSE A*-C - for the course I undertook at work.

The clever sod who lives down my road is planning to do the same and I've been helping him get used to STEP. We found a couple of decent resources (which you may have discovered already), the first has general tips and detailed solutions explaining the thought processes behind them for a ton of STEP 1,2,3 questions, and the second has papers and answers from recent years.

Ah, excellent, thanks. I've come across meikleriggs in the past, but had forgotten about it. Advanced Problems in Core Mathematics is new to me though; it'll be useful to see general thought processes in doing the questions.

Just to be smug, I was joint top in my year in the French language module, 82/90. I got 87/90 on the final exam which was probably the highest, but I forgot to check the list. This is assuming I haven't made a mistake because it's a long paper list and I just checked it by eye.

A BSc in Health and Social Care. Because of family and other commitments, the Open Uni meant I could do it one module at a time, hence the 8 years.
